Assistant Principal's Report

Teaching & Learning AP

Mrs Rose Thomson

We have had a busy start to Term 2 with several events and activities already undertaken.

Year 10 and 12 students have had their visit to the Careers Expo this year and attended information sessions at school presented by La Trobe. Year 9 have had a Cyber bullying presentation and their Morrisby interviews. Year 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to attend a STEM Excursion this week.

Term 2 Progress Reports

Our Term 1 Progress Reports were presented in a new format this year, where students received an averaged score for every subject on their learning behaviours. The subject averages were then averaged to produce an Overall Average. We will publish the next cycle of Progress Reports to students and families in Week 6 this term. This gives everyone another update on student learning behaviours and academic progress before the end of semester reports.

Progress Reports are published on Compass. From your child’s homepage, you will see a notification. You can also click on 'View Academic Reports' or navigate to your child’s 'Profile' and click the 'Reports' tab. Please remember to scroll down the page to view the Progress reports. You may need to access them on a desktop computer/laptop. You will be able to compare the results to Term 1.

The GPA calculations can provide a point of discussion between students, teachers and parents comparing actual achievements to expectations. It allows students to see how academic performance is linked to ‘input’ and well-developed work habits.

Teachers, students and families are encouraged to discuss these results so that students are best supported to maximise their learning outcomes.

Classwork and Assessment

We encourage students and families to check Compass for lesson plans and Compass Learning Tasks, which will contain feedback on Assessment Tasks. Core Subjects will provide feedback on Compass for a minimum of 3 assessments per semester and other subjects will provide feedback on 2 to 3 assessments per semester. An assessment rubric will be attached where applicable.

Year 10 and 11 Exams

Year 10 and 11 students will sit Semester Exams in Week 10 (23rd to 27th of June). More information about exam preparation and timetables will be published on Compass and discussed at upcoming assemblies.
