French News

                                                       Bonjour Parents and Students!

Here’s what our students have been up to in French this term:

  • Prep students explored farm animal vocabulary! Using gestures, songs, and lots of repetition, they enjoyed learning names like le cochon (pig), la vache (cow), and le cheval (horse). They also started building simple sentences using J’aime (I like) and Je n’aime pas (I don’t like) to express their preferences about animals.
  • Grade 1 Students focused on classroom object vocabulary. Using the sentence starter Il y a (There is), they described what’s in their classroom. For example, Il y a une table (There is a table). It’s been a great way to connect French with their everyday environment!

  • Grade 2 students continued learning about wild animals. They created wild animal reports in both French and English, learning how to use an online translation app responsibly to support their writing. Building on their Term 1 work, emotion vocabulary was also extended this term, helping students describe how they feel more precisely in French.

  • Grade 3 students were introduced to four subject pronouns: I, You, He, She. They explored how verbs change their endings depending on the subject and extended their weather knowledge from Term 1. They even picked a country they liked and wrote about the weather there—Il fait chaud en Inde! (It is hot in India!)

  • In their second week on emotions, grade 4 students discovered how prefixes and suffixes can change the meaning of a word in French. They also learned to conjugate ER verbs for all subject pronouns, laying a strong foundation for more complex sentence building.
  • Grades 5 and 6 students worked on RE verb conjugation through a variety of engaging activities. They also learned how to form Yes or No questions in French—an essential skill for real conversations! For example, they practiced asking Tu aimes le sport ? (Do you like sport?) and Il regarde la télé ? (Does he watch TV?). These structures are helping students become more confident in everyday spoken French.

It’s wonderful to see all our students engaging so enthusiastically with their French learning! We are looking forward to even more progress and creativity throughout the term.
