Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, we hope you are enjoying this unseasonably warm weather!
This term all students will be learning music.
Prep students have settled well into their second term of Performing Arts. They have started their music unit by exploring the foundations of music through singing and body percussion. Students are learning to use their voices clearly and confidently while discovering rhythm and beats through clapping, stomping, and tapping simple patterns. Prep students have also been learning about the way that music can express emotions.
Prep students engaged in a Listening and Responding activity
Grade 1 and 2 students have been introduced to the elements of music through the elements of pitch and articulation. Through singing games and listening activities, students are discovering how sounds can be high or low, and how the way we produce sounds—smooth, short, loud or soft—can completely change the character of the music.
Grade 3 and 4 students are stepping into the role of composers. They have started an exciting project to write their own class song. This involves experimenting with rhythm, melody, and lyrics, while working collaboratively to create something unique and meaningful to their class community. Students have enjoyed the challenge of applying their growing musical knowledge in a creative and collaborative way.
This fortnight Grade 5 and 6 students have completely an in depth listening and responding assessment focused on traditional and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music and culture. Through guided discussions and musical analysis, students are learning about the cultural significance, instruments, and traditional practices of First Nations Peoples, as well as analysing the elements of music displayed.
