Sporting News

Well, if you can survive Term 1 Sport then Term 2 should be a walk in the park!

Between Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals to nominations for induvial sports and preparing to host our own Diocesan Cross Country Carnival there was minimal time to breathe. However, with the strength of our wonderful school staff and parent community we sure did pull it off! The Diocesan Cross Country was a huge success, and we cannot express our gratitude and thanks to our P & F and family volunteers in organising and catering for over 600 people.

We also had a significant representation from our student body who ran their little hearts out, all achieving excellent results in their events. We are excited to announce that one of our students, Hadley Griffiths, finished her event the 8/9 Year old Girls in 8th position and has been invited to compete at the next level. Hadley will be running at the NSWCPS Cross Country on the 11th of June in Sydney. We wish her the best of luck and can’t wait to hear all about her experiences during this adventure. Thank you to all our families for all your support in sport in Term 1!

Term 2 has launched with some excitement at the annual Netball Schools Cup Gala Day. St Joseph’s Barraba were able to send four teams down to the competition yesterday Thursday 8th of May. We had two teams in the Years 3/4 category and two teams in the Years 5/6 category. All teams played exceptionally well with fantastic sportsmanship, teamwork, comradery and a number of wins by all teams! All students should be extremely proud of their improvement and achievements over the course of the day! This is another one of those days that is just not achievable without the help of our parent community. Thank you to the parents who were able to bring down their children and work together to help others out! Also thank you for being there for the staff! Many hands make light work and those hands were appreciated on Thursday! As our school numbers grow our staff are so grateful in your assistance on days like the Netball Gala day, whether it is being able to umpire, help with first aid, team management or an extra set of adult eyes for supervision, we are truly grateful!

With this is mind pop into your calendars the 23rd of September, there is an Armidale Diocesan Gala day for soccer and netball in Tamworth and we would greatly appreciate some parent volunteers for this day! The 31st of October is also a touch football gala day held in Tamworth.

We’re excited to announce the successful installation of a brand-new shed dedicated to storing our school’s sports equipment! This new facility will help keep our gear organised, secure, and easily accessible for all sporting activities throughout the school year.

A big thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life. We look forward to making the most of this new addition and continuing to support our students in staying active and engaged.

Moving forward we are now excited to launch into a five week Basketball program through our Sporting Schools Funding with a coach delivered course. What a great way to transfer our Netball skills. Starting Next Friday the 16th of May we will be attending our sport lessons at the Bicentennial Hall. Please see compass notes for more information. This will be a great opportunity to use our local facilities and have a professional Basketball coach help our students grow and learn. Amongst this on Wednesdays during PE lessons the students will be practicing their athletics events in preparation for our Annual School Athletics Carnival to be held on FRIDAY THE 27th of JUNE! Another date to pop into the calendar! A great day of school community and spirit to be shared by all!!

Stay tuned for more thought in Sport!
