Health and Physical Education

Foundation

Foundation students have been enthusiastically participating in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), which supports their coordination, balance and basic movement skills. A highlight has been the one-on-one guidance from our Year 6 leaders, who have shown fantastic leadership while assisting the younger students through each activity station. It’s been wonderful to see the confidence and independence growing with each session.

Year 1

Year 1 students have been developing their dribbling and bouncing skills through a range of basketball and soccer stations. These activities have helped improve their ball control and coordination. We finished the unit with an exciting game of soccer, where students put their new skills into action in a fun and inclusive team environment.

Year 2

Year 2, students have been playing modified basketball matches, where hula hoops were placed over the rings to make scoring easier and boost success and engagement. This creative twist helped reinforce shooting technique, teamwork and movement without discouragement. The students loved the challenge and celebrated every basket!

Year 3

Year 3, students have been focusing on modified basketball activities designed to develop their understanding of movement and positioning during gameplay. A key focus has been learning how to move into space to create passing and scoring opportunities. Through small-sided games like 2 vs 1 and 3 vs 2, students have been challenged to make quick decisions, work as a team, and apply their dribbling and passing skills in game-like scenarios. These activities have helped build confidence, spatial awareness, and a deeper understanding of offensive strategies in basketball.

Year 4

Year 4 students have been learning the key skills of Newcombe Volleyball, focusing on performing both a dig and a set while working cooperatively with a partner. They also enjoyed playing Volleyball Battleships – a fast-paced and strategic team game that required them to apply their volleyball skills in a fun and competitive environment where they could catch the ball but if the ball hit the floor, whoever was closest would be eliminated!

Year 5

Year 5 students have been participating in whole-class Tee Ball games, with a focus on understanding the basic rules and strategies of the sport. Emphasis was placed on base running, fielding, and teamwork. Students worked together to put their knowledge into play while having fun and staying active.

Year 6

In Year 6, the focus has been on soccer strategies, both offensive and defensive. Students explored different formations, movement patterns, and how to work as a cohesive unit on the field. Through various different modified soccer activities and small-sided games, they’ve shown strong tactical thinking and improved their communication and teamwork.

Health

Packing a healthy lunch box plays a vital role in supporting your child’s learning, energy levels, and overall well-being throughout the school day. Nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy snacks help children stay focused, maintain steady energy, and develop positive eating habits from a young age. Avoiding sugary drinks and processed foods can also improve concentration and behaviour in the classroom. A balanced lunch not only fuels their bodies for Physical Education and play but also teaches them the importance of making healthy choices for life. Have a look at the below photo for an example of a healthy packed lunch box!

Thank you for your continued support in promoting a healthy school environment.

Student Sporting Achievements – We Want to Celebrate!

At our school, we love recognising the amazing things our students achieve both in and out of the classroom. If your child has recently participated in any sporting or athletic events outside of school, whether it's a weekend soccer match, dance competition, fun run or anything active—we’d love to hear about it!

Please feel free to send through a short description of their achievement, and if you have any photos, we’d be happy to include them in our school newsletter. Let’s celebrate their hard work, dedication and success together. Thank you for all your support!
