SWPBS

Term 2 - SWPBS

This term at Solway Primary School, our SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) program will focus on our school value of Responsibility. Responsibility means taking ownership of our actions, belongings, learning, and behaviour, and we will be explicitly teaching students what this looks like across all areas of the school.

Some of the behaviours we will be focusing on include:

  • In the Yard: Playing by the agreed-upon rules, taking care of belongings, staying in safe places, and being at the line-up area by the time the music finishes.
  • In the Toilets: Using the toilets safely and responsibly, returning to class promptly, and washing hands with soap after use.
  • In Non-Learning Areas: Moving quietly and carefully, keeping belongings safe in lockers, and being in corridors or locker areas only with teacher permission.
  • In Learning Areas: Taking responsibility for learning and belongings, trying our best, and taking ownership of actions and behaviours.

We encourage parents/carers to have conversations with their children about what being responsible means both at school and at home. Simple questions such as “How did you show responsibility today?” can help students reflect and make stronger connections to what they are learning at school.

To keep student motivation high, we are continuing our school-wide reward system this term with a bit of a twist. Instead of earning tokens for their preferred reward, students will now earn tokens for their house teams. Tokens will be awarded to students who demonstrate positive behaviours aligned with our school values. The house with the most tokens at the end of Term 2 will have the exciting opportunity to choose a reward for the whole school to enjoy! Reward options will be announced by our Wellbeing Captains at Assembly this Friday afternoon.

It was fantastic to see so many students proud of their efforts and enjoying their well-earned reward at the ice-cream stall last term. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for supporting the SWPBS program and helping us create a positive school environment. We can't wait to celebrate all the ways our students show Responsibility in their learning and behaviour this term.
