Spotlight on Attendance: Every Day Counts

Dear Families,

Attendance is crucial for your child's success, as it directly impacts their academic and social growth. The time students spend at school is vital for their learning and development.

Despite Australia's overall good attendance rates, with 75% of students attending at least 90% of school days, challenges remain. A significant 25% of students miss more than 10% of school days, equating to a month or more of missed education annually.

Non-attendance affects not only academic performance but also social engagement, increasing the risk of disengagement with school. Research shows that even authorised absences can negatively impact achievement, with unauthorised absences having a more severe effect.

Addressing attendance requires a comprehensive approach between schools and families, focusing on early intervention and creating supportive school environments.

At our school, we:

  • Track individual attendance, identify at-risk students, and implement tailored interventions.
  • Engage with families and communities to foster a culture of attendance and belonging.

By prioritising attendance from the early years and adopting a holistic strategy, we can enhance student engagement and achievement, ensuring every child benefits from their educational journey.

Thank you for your continued support.
