Last term, the Year 5s explored how Christian beliefs and values influence the decisions people make and the way they interact with those around them. Christian beliefs and values are not just things we keep in our hearts—they guide the choices we make every day. Jesus taught us to love our neighbours, care for those in need, and serve others with kindness. These teachings influence how we treat and interact with others, how we respond to those in need, and how we give back to our communities.
We explored how Christian organisations give back to their community. One incredible example of this is Lutheran Care, a charity that puts Christian love into action by supporting individuals and families facing hardship. From providing food and shelter to offering counselling and emergency relief, Lutheran Care shows what it means to live out faith with compassion and purpose.
After visiting our local branch of Lutheran Care in Blair Athol, learning about what they do, and seeing where everything happens, the children were inspired to share their message and the work they do with others. We thought about all the things people might need to know, including what to do if you need some support, where you can find them, and what we can do if we want to help their cause.
The children chose a way to share what they had learned with others, some choosing to create posters and pamphlets. These can be found in the front office! In doing so, they lived out the actions in 1 John 3:18 (NIV):
"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."
They used their creativity to share God’s love and encourage others to serve too.
This reminds us all that our faith is meant to be seen—in our choices, in our care for others, and in how we give back to the world around us.
