Term 2 2025
Welcome to Performing Arts for 2025!
Firstly, I would like to commend the students on the artwork that they produced last term. There are so many impressive pieces of art across all year levels and the students should be proud of their efforts. There is a selection of artwork on display in the Junior corridor and near the Art room. Artwork by the Year 3/4 students below - Cut Fruit on a Placemat, inspired by Texan artist Polly Jones.
The big news this term is that we are beginning preparation for a whole school musical which will take place at the end of October. The show is called "When I Grow Up" and centres around a year 6 student exploring possible future careers and discovering their own gifts and talents along the way. The lead cast will be made up of students in year 5 and 6, with each year level creating the ensemble cast for the different musical numbers. More details to follow as we get closer to the performance.
Years 5 and 6
Senior students will be taking the lead roles in our musical, so are learning about the audition and rehearsal process, as well as developing their acting, singing and dancing. Students will be reflecting on how they can adapt and improve their performance to put on the best show for the audience. Some students will also be discovering the behind-the-scenes world of theatre production, learning about stage hands, set design, props and costumes.
Years 3 and 4
In year 3 and 4 we are learning about the importance of the Ensemble in a production. Students will create their own characters within their ensemble roles and add personality to their performance. Middle school students will have the opportunity to become part of a separate dance ensemble, accompanying the lead character's big solo. Some student may also take on leadership of choreography in their class ensembles.
Years 1 and 2
Junior students are starting off the term exploring rhythm and rhyme through Process drama - whereby we focus on the process of creating rather than a final performance. Students will actively explore situations and ideas through improvisation and role play, based on the book "The Cow Tripped Over the Moon" by Tony Wilson and Lara Wood. Later in the term we will begin learning our songs and dances for taking part in the whole school musical.
Foundation
In Foundation, we are learning that Drama is about using our whole body to tell a story. We will be exploring facial expressions, body language, action, and voice and combining them to retell a known story. Foundation students will also have a part to play in the school musical, and will be learning a song and dance to perform alongside the senior cast.
Looking forward to the exciting things ahead in Performing Arts!
