From the Principal ...

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land we are gathered on and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.

Dear students, families and staff of Cheltenham Primary School,

We had a wonderful start to the week this morning with a whole-school assembly just after 9:00am. These assemblies are proudly led by our student leaders and showcase student voices and contributions.

At today's assembly, we heard engaging reports from students about recent incursions and experiences:

  • Healthy Harold (Foundation)
  • Minibeasts (Years 1 and 2)
  • Forces in Motion (Years 3 and 4)
  • Year 5/6 Camp
  • District Cross Country

School assemblies are held fortnightly on Monday mornings during Term 2. Our next assembly will be on Monday 26 May, with a special focus on the theme of Education Week 2025: "Celebration of Cultures." This theme highlights the rich diversity within our communities and reinforces the importance of every child feeling safe, welcome, and valued at school.

While we had initially planned to open Education Week with a Pooch Party on Sunday 18 May, this event has now been rescheduled—in partnership with our school sponsor, Trevor Bowen—to take place during Children’s Week in October.

Instead, we warmly invite all families to join us for an Open Morning on Monday 19 May from 8:40am to 9:15am. This will be a 'hands-on' Mathematics morning in your child’s classroom, where you can explore the games and problem-solving activities that help build our students’ stamina, skills, and fluency in Mathematics. We look forward to seeing you there!

2026 Foundation enrolment tour

This morning, we welcomed several prospective Foundation families for 2026 as they toured our school in three groups, each led by our outstanding student leaders: Samantha and Lachie (School Captains), Will and Sheryne (Dendy House Captains), and Naile and Annada (SRC Presidents).

Student Leaders

The students were warm, articulate, and mature as they shared their experiences at Cheltenham, proudly showcasing what makes our school community special. The feedback from visiting families was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the confidence and enthusiasm of our student guides.

Our students are truly our greatest asset, and we are committed to ensuring that all our student leaders have the opportunity to represent and promote our school during future tours.

To support families in understanding the curriculum and school activities, we also provide termly Curriculum Overviews and Learning Reflections. These summaries offer a valuable snapshot of learning in Literacy, Mathematics, STEAM, and our specialist disciplines, along with relevant year-level information. They highlight how learning is intentionally scaffolded from Foundation through to Year 6, allowing families to see how the level of challenge and depth of understanding progresses as students grow.

Today’s newsletter includes all of our specialist learning overviews. We encourage you to take some time to read through them and celebrate the rich and varied learning taking place across the school.

Sibling enrolments for Foundation 2026

Thank you to your positive response to our request for sibling enrolments for Foundation 2026.  We have nearly filled a Foundation class for next year. If you have not yet submitted your child's enrolment form for Foundation 2026, please try and do so as soon as possible so that we reserve a place for your child.

The next edition of the newsletter in a fortnight:  Issue 7 will have an Education Week focus.

Kind Regards,
