Student Voice

Student Voice : Springvale Campus
Welcome to Term 2, Week 2! So many exciting things are coming up this term, including the FLC Mother's Day morning tea, the JLC Aquarium excursion, and the SLC who will be going to camp in Week 5! Winter sports has also begun for the SLC, and we are so excited for our first match against Heatherhill this Friday!
In Maths, the SLC have been learning to represent numbers and their value. The SLC students are now focusing on comparing and ordering decimal fractions! Because of how focused the SLC are on their Maths work, some students have gone above the expected level and are identifying equivalent fractions and explaining their thinking. The SLC teachers are very proud of how much they have achieved.
Last week, we recognised ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day is about commemorating the Australian and New Zealander soldiers who have served their countries. The SLC have connected Reading and Writing by researching using different websites such as Kids Brittannica, Kiddle and Kids News and using a fact file to record their notes. The SLC has been very lucky, because Mrs Cottier made time out of her busy schedule to come and share many stories about her family tree and their experience during the war, such as those of the Lovett Brothers.
In Projects, the SLC has been learning more about democracy. We learned that it means "rule by the people". This means everyone should have a say on making big decisions, just like how our principal always gives us a chance to share our "Student Voice". As part of this unit of work, the SLC students will be having a parliament role play incursion that will help them learn about governments and the lawmaking process.
This term, the FLC students will be celebrating Mother’s Day by inviting their special person for a fun activity day! The JLC students will be going on an excursion to the Aquarium, how lucky are they?! In Week 5 the SLC students will be going on camp for three days and two nights to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort!
The SLC are also going to have an exciting term full of sports. Every Friday, the SLC will be going to other schools and participating in winter sports. The SLC students have been proactive by always training and practising during their free time without any teacher needed! The sports they've been practising are soccer, netball, sofcrosse and AFL. We are sure every team is going to show fantastic sportsmanship.
Finally, we would like to say a big WELCOME to our new Education Support staff members, Mr. Cox, Mr. Gilla and Ms Zarac! We hope you love our school as much as wedo!
