Planning week

Each term, our staff dedicate Week 9 to collaborative planning and evaluation. Teams work together to reflect on this term's teaching and learning programs, assess what has worked well, and plan and refine programs for the term ahead. This evaluative cycle is an important part of how we maintain the quality of teaching across the school and ensure our programs continue to challenge and engage every student. It is quiet, behind the scenes work, but it plays a significant role in what happens in classrooms every day. Each team has a great Term 4 of learning planned for our students.

Making a difference!

We are delighted to share a wonderful story of student advocacy in action. One of our students, Aashvi in Year 5, identified a real problem affecting students travelling to school on the Route 533 bus and decided to do something about it. Since starting at Chatswood Public School this year, Aashvi noticed that students from our school and Chatswood High School were required to walk more than 600 metres and cross the busy Pacific Highway, despite there being a bus stop directly outside our school.

Rather than accepting the situation, Aashvi wrote a letter and worked with Federal MP for Bennelong, Mr Jerome Laxale, and Member for Willoughby, Mr Tim James, to raise awareness of the issue. We are thrilled to share that the NSW Minister for Transport agreed to change the Route 533 service so that it now stops directly outside Chatswood Public School. This is a meaningful change that makes the daily journey to school safer and saves students around ten minutes each way. We are enormously proud of Aashvi for speaking up, taking initiative and creating real change for her fellow students. It is a wonderful reminder of what is possible when young people find their voice.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 students are currently wrapping up their Canberra camp and will be returning later today. By all accounts it has been a wonderful few days and we look forward to hearing all about it when they are back. These experiences are such an important part of primary school and a fitting way for our Year 6 students to create lasting memories together before they move on at the end of the year. A huge thank you to the staff who have accompanied them and made the trip possible.

P&C Disco

A big thank you to our P&C and all the volunteers who helped make last Friday's disco such a great night. The students had an absolute ball and events like this don't happen without a lot of behind the scenes effort. It was a wonderful evening and the smiles on students' faces said it all. We appreciate everyone who gave their time to make it happen.

Year 6 Photograph - Week 10, Thursday 24 September

The Year 6 group photograph will be taken at 9:00 am sharp next Thursday, 24 September. All Year 6 students must wear their Year 6 shirts. Students without a Year 6 shirt are required to wear their sports uniform. Arrival on time and correct attire is required to participate in the photograph.
