Field of Mars Excursions - Buffalo Creek

Stage 2 students visited Field of Mars Reserve this week to learn about maps and the environment. They looked at different map types and learned how maps help us find and understand places.

Students enjoyed a bush walk, using their senses to explore and record what they saw on park templates with sketches and notes. They also learned how the park is cared for, looking at things such as boardwalks, signs, and ways to protect nature.

The students came away with a better understanding of how parks are managed and why it’s important to look after our nature and our environment. It would be wonderful if students could take their families on a bushwalk to Field of Mars and share what they learned during the excursion.

Easter Hat Parade

We welcome parents and carers of Chatswood Public School students to our Easter Hat Parade. This will take place around the park on Thursday, 2 April (the last day of Term 1). We will open school gates from 11.30am onwards. Students will parade their hat designs around the park. We will end our Parade with a song from K-2 students.

Making Easter Hats

This year students in Kindergarten and Stage 1, will have the opportunity to make Easter Hats in their classroom. Our Easter Hat parade will take place on Thursday, 2 April.

K-2 students will be provided with the base of the hat at school. Stage 1 will decorate their hats next week with their peers and teachers. Classroom Teachers of Stage 1 will contact the class parents about opportunities for parents to come into the classroom to help with decorations. Kindergarten students will create their hats with their buddies.

Parents are asked to provide their children with decorations and materials that can easily attach to cardboard hats with PVA glue. This includes items like foam stickers, feathers, and decorative paper. Please see the example.

Students are requested to start bringing in these items from home, in preparation for decorating in Week 10.

Students in Stage 2 & 3 are more than welcome to create a hat at home. All students will have the opportunity to show their designs to the whole school community on the day of the parade.
