Oodgeroo Harmony Day

Last Friday, 27th March, the Kildare community came together to celebrate Harmony Day, in collaboration with Oodgeroo Community Day. This day focused on celebrating cultural diversity and promoting inclusivity and belonging for everyone, whilst raising funds for Project Compassion.
Students started recess with an extensive cake stall featuring baked goods from around the world, including honey biscuits, doughnuts, and much more. Thank you to all who donated their baking or their time to support. Students were also given the opportunity to mark their cultural heritage on a map, showcasing the cultural diversity of our community, as we listened to a playlist of music from different cultures and countries. A huge thank you to Jamilah and Safiah, who ran their henna stall during recess, offering a range of intricate designs.
We didn’t let the wet weather get us down, and lunch time went ahead with a pancake lunch, while the senior students built their pool noodle horses in preparation for the afternoon’s race. They were determined to put together a fast, agile team, alongside a horse that could withstand the obstacles ahead.
Finishing off the day, students came together for three very different competitions. Starting with Fashions on the Field, students were able to model not only their own cultural dress, but their best thrifted race outfits at the same time. Following this, the Mount Erin Hall hosted a competitive trivia competition, focusing on the Harmony Day themes of cultural diversity and inclusion, while the College Hall was home to the House vs House junior and senior relays.
We extended our celebrations into the final week of school, drawing the Easter Raffle at the close of the end-of-term liturgy. Congratulations to all involved, including our trivia competition and race winners from Friday, and all those lucky enough to take an Easter hamper home.
Thank you so much to all the staff, students and families who supported the success of the day through their time, support and donations.
