From the Principal Class Team

Dear MRC Community,

As we reach the end of a busy and productive Term 1, we reflect on the many achievements made possible through the strong partnership between our staff, students, families and wider community.

One of the many advantages of being a Prep to Year 12 College is the breadth of opportunities we are able to offer our students. Access to specialist staff, facilities and resources allows students to engage in a wide range of learning experiences based on their interests, strengths and abilities. Our P–12 structure also enables cross‑age learning, mentoring and leadership opportunities that build confidence, responsibility and positive role modelling, while fostering strong relationships over time between students and staff. This connectedness supports a coordinated and holistic approach to teaching, learning and wellbeing across the College.

As we look ahead to the term break, we celebrate what we have achieved as a community and remain proud of our shared commitment to student growth and success.

National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

Congratulations to all Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students who completed the 2026 NAPLAN assessments. While testing can be a challenging experience for many students, it was wonderful to see them approach the tasks with focus and resilience.

The smooth delivery of online NAPLAN is a testament to the collaborative efforts of staff, students and families, and we thank everyone for their support. NAPLAN provides a point‑in‑time snapshot of student progress in literacy and numeracy against national standards. Individual student reports will be distributed to parents and carers during Term 2.

Inter‑school Sport

Over the past few weeks, several MRC teams have represented the College at inter‑school sporting competitions, supported by our VET Sport and Recreation students who acted as coaches. Feedback on student conduct, teamwork and sportsmanship has been extremely positive.

Inter‑school sport provides valuable opportunities for students to develop skills through training and competition, connect with the wider community and demonstrate leadership and collaboration. Congratulations to students who have progressed to the next level of competition and thank you to the staff and senior students who assisted with training and organisation.

Excursions and Incursions

Excursions and incursions play an important role in enriching learning and engaging students through real‑world experiences. Over the past month, students have participated in a wide range of activities including the ESP Connection Day, RMIT I Belong: Computer Science and Information Technology excursion, Year 11 Japanese Pathways Insight Day at Monash University, Elevate guest speakers for Years 11 and 12 ACED students, GRIP student leadership conference, Year 3 Shrine of Remembrance excursion, Year 2 Light and Sound incursion and the Year 7 Lady Northcote Activity Day. We thank the many staff members who planned and supervised these opportunities, providing our students with meaningful and memorable learning experiences.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day was celebrated at the College on Friday 20th March, 2026. With more than 60 nationalities represented at MRC, diversity is one of our greatest strengths and a defining feature of our College community.

Students and staff were invited to mark Harmony Day by wearing an orange accessory, participating in Wellbeing Team activities in Berkshire, and engaging in classroom learning that celebrated cultural understanding and inclusion. These activities highlighted the importance of respect, belonging and appreciation of diversity within our school and beyond.

Scholarship Morning Tea

On Wednesday 25 March, MRC was proud to host the annual Scholarship Morning Tea, celebrating the achievements, commitment and potential of our scholarship recipients. The morning provided a valuable opportunity to recognise students for their dedication to learning and to acknowledge the support of families, staff and community partners who contribute to their success. It was a wonderful occasion to reflect on the positive impact scholarships have in supporting student growth, aspiration and excellence across the College.

WeShare Interviews

WeShare interviews were held onsite on Wednesday 1 April. At MRC, WeShare Interviews are crucial for fostering a strong partnership between home and school, ultimately benefiting the student's educational journey. These interviews provide a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to gain insight into their child's academic progress, strengths, and areas needing improvement. Conversely, teachers learn more about the student's individual needs, home environment, and any factors that may influence their learning. This collaborative dialogue allows for the development of shared goals, strategies, and support systems, ensuring that both parents/carers and teachers are working together to maximise the student's potential. This open communication is vital for early identification of any learning challenges, enabling timely intervention and promoting a supportive and nurturing learning environment.

The Principal Class team extends warm wishes to all staff, students, parents and carers for a safe, restful and enjoyable Easter break. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 20 April, refreshed and ready for Term 2.
