STEP F1 Racing
Our amazing F1 Racing students were thrilled to visit the Formula 1 Exhibition in town a few weeks ago, and what an unforgettable experience it was! From the incredible LEGO® F1 car that was actually raced, to iconic past Formula 1 cars, uniforms, and displays, students were able to see first‑hand how the sport has evolved over time.
It was fascinating to explore the advances in design, performance, and especially aerodynamics — but the biggest surprise for many was the remarkable progress in driver safety. One standout moment was watching footage of Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean’s dramatic 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix crash and learning how modern safety technology protected him in an extraordinary way. It was truly eye‑opening to see how innovation saves lives.
We hope this experience inspires our students as they develop new design ideas for our upcoming in‑house competition, and for those teams considering the State Finals and beyond. Well done to all involved — we can’t wait to see where your ideas take you next!
STEP F1 National Finals
WOW! What an incredible achievement by our outstanding F1 National STEM Racing Finals team — Hudson Barnes, Finn Van Deusen, Archie Pinhorn and Nick Ly. In just six weeks, the team achieved what many would think impossible!
They completed an entirely new car design from the ground up, including new wings, nose cone and eyelets. On top of that, they produced brand-new portfolios, a trade booth, merchandise and uniforms — the list truly goes on!
There were a few nail-biting moments along the way, especially on the morning of the event when, just 30 minutes before scrutineering, a crucial car component was discovered to be missing. Showing true professionalism under pressure, the team quickly engineered a workaround and had the car ready in time — an impressive demonstration of quick thinking and teamwork.
Throughout the competition, the team faced numerous interviews covering everything from design and engineering protocols to aerodynamics, marketing and future enhancements — all alongside the thrill of racing itself!
It was so good to see fellows Parkdale students Declan Pitkin and Harry Fairly running the track for the event (they volunteered their whole weekend for this event), you are absolute champions!
While our team missed a podium finish, we are thrilled to share that the team was awarded Best Newcomers Overall, a fantastic and well-deserved achievement. GO HYPERSPEED
We are immensely proud of what these students have accomplished, not only in results but in the confidence, skills and growth they have shown as individuals. These are certainly students to watch in the future. Well done, lads!
