Faith in Action in our School community

Project Compassion 2026 – Water Walk Initiative

Our school community is proud to support Project Compassion, the annual Lenten campaign led by Caritas Australia, which invites us to live out our faith through prayer, reflection, and action for those most in need.

Earlier this term, a group of our senior students attended the Project Compassion Launch. Inspired by the powerful stories and the call to action, they returned motivated to lead an initiative within our school that encourages students to reflect on global inequality and take meaningful action during Lent.

We are proud to share that our school has already raised $997 towards our $5,000 Project Compassion target. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far and supported this important cause.

The Water Walk Challenge

Guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, particularly Human Dignity, Solidarity, and Participation, our senior students have developed the Water Walk Challenge for students in Years 7–10.

Millions of people around the world walk long distances each day to collect water for their families. This initiative invites students to experience a small glimpse of this reality while raising awareness about poverty and access to clean water.

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves to complete a 5km walk during Lent.

On Thursday, 26 March (Week 9), students will participate in a 1km “Water Walk” at school during recess (yrs 7-8) and lunch (Yrs 9-10). Students will then complete the remaining 4km in their own time and at their own pace throughout the Lenten period.

Families and friends are invited to sponsor students through the Project Compass Fundraising Page QKR where donations can be made directly in support of the Walk for Water Lenten Challenge. Sponsorship not only helps raise vital funds for Project Compassion, but also gives students a strong sense of fulfilment and achievement, knowing their efforts are being supported and are contributing to a meaningful cause.

Senior Student Bake Sale

To further support Project Compassion, our senior students will host a bake sale, with all proceeds donated to Caritas Australia.

Students will be able to pre-purchase bake sale tokens through the school’s QKR app, making it easy to support the initiative and avoid queues on the day. Tokens can then be exchanged for items at the bake sale. For those who prefer, purchases can also be made on the day using EFTPOS.

Supporting the Conversation at Home

We encourage parents and families to engage in meaningful conversations at home about social justice and global inequality. Lent is a powerful time to reflect on how we can respond to the needs of others.

Discussing themes such as human dignity, solidarity with those who are vulnerable, and participation in building a more just world can help our young people understand the importance of these values. Reflecting on these ideas encourages students to recognise that living out these principles is an essential way of putting faith into action in their daily lives.

Together as a school community, we hope these initiatives will inspire our students to grow in compassion, deepen their understanding of social justice, and recognise that even small actions can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for supporting our students as they put their faith into action this Lent.
