Music News
This term in Music, we are focusing on creating our own pieces of music and looking at how music can help tell a story.
The Foundation and Year One students have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the music, In the Hall of the Mountain King. This piece of music by Edvard Grieg was written in 1875; 148 years ago!
We read the story of Peer Gynt in a 'The Story Orchestra' picture book and the children loved the way the music helped tell the story, building the drama with the music getting faster and more exciting as the events in the story did. We have danced to the music, crept around like gnomes, ran like trolls and roared like a Mountain King!! We will also use instruments next time to add to the music and spent time drawing our favourite parts.
The Year 4/5 and Year 5/6 students began using the music technology application, Soundtrap Music for Education. As you can see from these photos they really enjoyed exploring another way to make their own music and beats.
The program I have purchased is especially for music education and students can access it through the school group account using their school email address. So hopefully the creative music making can continue at home!
We are hoping to share a selection of our musical creations with the community at the Exhibition in a few weeks.
As we are working on composing and creating our own music this term, some children may like to enter the Australian Children's Music Foundation National Song writing Competition. All students can enter their own original song to win prizes in different age categories on their own, with a partner or in a group.
I will offer some time during music and lunchtime to support students who wish to enter this competition. However students can also put in their own entries they have worked on independently from home. More details can be found here:
