Sad News To Share About Puggles The Guinea Pig

Unfortunately, I have some very sad news to share with you all. Sunday afternoon our beloved Guinea pig, Puggles died. We are all very heartbroken. I’ve shed many more tears for this adorable hairy potato than I ever thought possible.

She was almost 6.5y which is pretty good for a Guinea pig. They tend to live for 5-7 years. She had a little head cold the week before, and seemed in good spirits through the week, but then I found her listless on her cage floor on Sunday morning. Gil (4/5H) and I were with her when she passed.

I was up at the school Wednesday at lunch time chatting to the kids about it, and answering any questions they had. (They had lots of questions). And I read them a fabulous book called Life is Like the Wind by Shona Innes. It talks about all the different ideas and beliefs around when things die.

I will still come up to the school each Wednesday to help with the finger knitting club in Bronnie Brasch’s classroom so if any kids want to talk to me about Puggles, I’m there for them to help process this loss. Puggles had lots of friends at RPS. So many of the kids loved her.

Rest in peace Puggles. Reunited with your sister Piggles. Buried in the same pot. We put a grevillea on top of her when we buried her. (Gil is part of Green Grevillea house)

Uniform Swap Information & Request For A Successor....

Update from Jackie: Unfortunately I’ve had no volunteers come forward to take on the uniform swap. Please don’t be shy. All we need is 2 people to shadow me for the next 12 months. It’s very easy but does require a handover. If I can’t get anyone to take over, then sadly, 2025 will be the last year of swaps.   My contact details are below

Hi everyone

Two or three times a year RPS parent community runs a uniform swap. Generally they are held towards the of term 1, and towards the end of term 3. And if enough interest, at the end of term 4.

Parents and carers bring along uniform items that are in good condition and swap them for other items they may need. This all happens on the day of the swap.

Outside of these swap times, uniforms can be donated to the school for the second hand uniform store. And of course, second hand uniform items can be purchased for $5 an item (polar fleece jackets are $20) at any time during the year.

More details about the next uniform swap will be forthcoming but save the date: Friday 6th September after school.

My second point is that I need a successor to shadow me in the next 12 months. I (Jackie) have been leading this initiative out for the past 18 months. However next year is my last year at RPS and I need 1-2 parents to take over for me.

The ideal candidate will have a child currently in grade prep, 1, or 2 and be passionate about saving clothes from landfill. The actual swap organising is pretty easy (& full training will be provided). But the environmental passion must be there.

If you think you would like to take on this important task at RPS, please get in touch with Jackie at Jackie.arbuckle@yahoo.com.au or text 0413218761.

Thanks so much.

The Smile Squad free school dental program is coming to our school

Dear Rosanna Primary families,

The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school soon.

Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.

This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.

How to access free dental care

We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.

Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic

OR use the below QR code:

Please complete and submit the consent form by Friday the 16th of August.

The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages, and the paper form is currently available in 13 languages.

Smile Squad oral health packs

All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.

Your child(ren) will soon receive a free oral health pack to bring home. The pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.

Standard strength toothpaste

Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.

If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.

Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?

No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.

The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
