A note from Mr Jackson

Leadership Celebration a Semester Highlight

Last Friday saw teachers, students and parents/carers celebrate Student Leaders. Their willingness to be nominated and support their peers as Junior School Council and Sustainability representatives are significant steps in their leadership development. We look forward to their voice and actions reverberating through the community this semester. Thanks also to our local Federal Member, Kate Thwaites, for sharing her experiences and reflections on her own leadership journey. Thanks to FORPS again for providing a spread that our new leaders and parents feasted upon.

Lots Happening at Rosanna Primary School

The days at Rosanna Primary seem continually filled with adventures and experiences. Life Education has brought fresh discussions and experiences of different aspects of health into our spaces, ICAS has encouraged students to challenge themselves, students in the 1/2 Learning Area are enjoying their swimming experiences, while the 4/5/6 Learning Area head to Quantum and 'Grease' The Musical at Macleod College.  Our regular extracurricular experiences provide sparks of excitement for a number of students, lunchtime clubs and rehearsal of concert items are all filling the school space with energy.  It is great to see a quilt of experiences that enrich life here.

On Friday, at the afternoon assembly, we look forward to celebrating our Leaders of Learning but also present the Sustainability Litter Legends to students who have been keeping our yard tidy.

School Concert Tickets

One of the highlights of students this year will be the School Concert. It is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 8 October (second day of term 4). Two tickets are available for each household initially and will be made available on Monday. Stay tuned for a Compass post on Monday for more information.

Please note that if you do not plan to attend the concert with your child, let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible. This will ensure they are not disappointed and allocated supportive roles as their contribution is valued.

2025 Student Movement

If you are planning a move from the area or from Rosanna Primary in 2025 please let me know. We are currently constructing our workforce plan to ensure that we are meeting the needs of students. An accurate understanding of student numbers helps ensure that school resources are allocated to make the most impact on student learning.

Working Bee

A large number of parents and students gathered on Saturday to complete a range of projects. This included the establishment of a Frog Bog with the support of Banyule Council. Students from the 2/3/4 Learning Areas were able to explore and design the frog bog over term 2. Other important tasks included; renewing some of our yellow hazard markings on step edges and zig zag lines, blowing parts of the playground free of debris, clearing of the drains and storm water pits (we were thrilled to have found $2.50 that was donated to the Frog Bog), as well as the replacement of rotted timbers outside the 2/3/4 Learning Area and below the upper playground. Thanks to these volunteers who have supported the school in such a practical and generous manner.

Respectful and Safe Behaviour at Rosanna Primary

A reminder to parents that positive school environments are important because everyone has the right to be safe and play a shared role in being respectful. Everyone at school, particularly staff and parents/carers, play a role in making school a better place for learning and work.

Respectful behaviours are important in building strong, healthy and thriving school communities. This respectful behaviour is central to our school values and should be expressed towards teachers, children and parents.

School staff in Victorian Government schools have to follow the Respectful Workplaces Policy to build and maintain a respectful workplace, including:

  • treating each other with respect and consideration
  • being inclusive, valuing others and accepting their differences
  • recognising the efforts and achievements of others
  • considering our impact on others
  • calling out and addressing behaviour that can lead to bullying, harassment and discrimination.

Parents/carers can create a positive environment for learning and work by:

  • modelling positive behaviour to their child/children and to the school community
  • communicating politely and respectfully with all members of the school community
  • working with the school to achieve the best outcomes for their child/children
  • communicating constructively with the school
  • making use of the expected processes and protocols when raising concerns
  • following the school's processes for communication with staff and making complaints
  • treating all school staff, students, and other members of the school community with respect.

I understand that at times parents may have concerns related to their child’s wellbeing or learning needs. Parents should not approach students in the playground or classrooms to raise such matters directly. Such interactions can be perceived as threatening and unsettling for young children.  If you have concerns about your child’s learning or wellbeing you should make an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss the matter. By treating everyone with respect, parents/carers and schools can make sure students feel supported and cared for.
