This week in Reading, Grade 2 students will be continuing to analyse Explanation texts.

VOCABULARY

Explanation texts

A non-fiction text which describes how or why things happen. 

Key features of explanation texts: 

• Purpose: To explain how something functions or why an event occurs, often providing reasons and details.
   
• Structure: They typically follow a logical order, starting with the defining statement to the topic, followed by a description of the topic then a step-by-step explanation, and concluding with a summary or final comment. 

Language: Uses clear, straightforward language and often includes definitions, examples, and sometimes diagrams or illustrations to help understanding.
