Principal's Report
Last week was a wonderful one at Langwarrin Park Primary School. I have always said and will continue to say that what makes a school, are the people in it. On Monday, there was a positive community feel at our whole school book parade. It was great to see everyone embracing the day and coming to school dressed in their favourite book character. I really loved catching up with my 'Wally relatives' across the day.
The focus for my report this fortnight is very much on student safety.
Student Dropping Off and Picking Up
My first reminder, which is not a new one, is on the dropping off and picking up of students. We have clearly designated drop off and pick up areas around our school. Northgateway and Jackson Dve are clearly signed and it is important that all parents and carers are abiding by these rules. When the rules are not followed, it creates serious traffic congestion and then puts the safety of all our kids at risk.
Secondly, I have mentioned on numerous occasions about not parking inside the school (Pool car park and back car park behind the pool). This car park is reserved for only school staff and swimming patrons. It is very dangerous having students entering the car park before school and at the end of the day, when there are numerous vehicles arriving and leaving.
I thank everyone for ensuring we prioritise the safety of all our kids at Langy Park Primary School.
Family Toilets
At the beginning of this term, I shared that we have two family toilets that can be used. Based on the child safe standards and guidelines we follow, it is important that when a family member (not a student) needs to use the toilet, that the student toilets are NOT used. Our family toilets are located near the office foyer and in the gym foyer. We are creating some new signage so there is no confusion.
School Value: Resilience
I thought it would be a good idea as part of my newsletter report, that I put a 'spotlight' on our school values. In this issue, I would like to spotlight one of our school values of resilience.
As a parent and Principal, I want my kids and all our kids at Langy Park Primary to be resilient. The ability to problem solve, to accept rejection and to make mistakes are important traits and skills to possess. At school, kids are developing these skills on a daily basis. We have the THRIVE curriculum where students are explicitly taught a range of skills that allow them to be more resilient.
This also needs to be backed up at home and there are plenty of things you can do to support the development of your child's resilience. Michael Grose is a well-known Australian parenting and educational writer. Attached below is a link to an article Michael has written on how parents can encourage their kids to be resilient problem-solvers. I highly encourage you to spend five minutes reading this interesting article.

2025 Intentions
Just another reminder, that if you know that your child will not be attending Langwarrin Park Primary School next year, to please inform our school office at your earliest convenience.
I wish everyone a happy remainder of your week.
Cheers
