Year 1 Update

Upcoming Learning -Term 3, Weeks 6 & 7

During the next fortnight, Year 1 students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading	Students continue to engage in literacy activities using the Little Learners Love Literacy program. The focus texts for our reading relate to the Olympics and Fiction. Our digraph focus is the /oy/ and /ow/ sounds, and the different spelling combinations.
Writing	Students are learning about Fiction, through narrative writing and learning about story elements, such as characters, heroes and villains, and how to include dialogue. They continue to work on their handwriting daily using the Hartley Program.
Maths	Students are exploring Subtraction through hands-on learning and engaging in Top Ten Subtraction activities. They are working on writing numbers correctly, making sure they are not reversing them.
Inquiry	Students are expanding their knowledge of Sustainability and learning about the 3R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. They will learn about the impacts of marine pollution on animals and our Earth, and how trees make oxygen.
SEL	Students are engaging in learning activities about fairness, looking at both equity and equality.
