Our Learning
During this fortnight in the 3-and 4-year-old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:
Pre-Reading : Drama Toolbox visit to Kinder Re-enacting familiar stories through the use of a small world (The Gingerbread Man, Three Little Pigs) Building phonological awareness by learning letter sounds and breaking words into syllables

Pre-Writing: Signing themselves in on arrival each day Discussing the difference between lower case and upper case letters Exploring letter shapes – circle shape, short line, tall line, slanted line Building fine motor muscles through scissor use, clay and playdough exploration

STEM : Exploring concepts of sinking and floating through water play Children have been learning to identify more complex shapes such as rhombus, trapezoid and hexagon through searching and sorting sensory bins or ephemeral art

Inquiry : Exploring the Unit of Inquiry: Light has an impact on the world around us Group discussions on “What is light?” and “Where does light come from?” Extending learning into shadows, exploring with shadow puppets on projector and with shadows outside, building on understanding light/sun is needed to create shadows

Social & emotional learning : Listening to different types of music and focusing on how these make us feel Feelings/emotions: Colour monster and the Zones of regulations. Listening and interacting with puppets and social stories

Enrolments for free 3 and 4 year old sessional kindergarten.
Enrol through Casey Council for Hillsmeade Kindergarten.
Long Day Care enrolments with kindergarten is through the ELC office.
