OVERDUE BOOKS - We have a number of students who have overdue books. Please ask your children to look for library books at home and return them as soon as possible.
LIBRARY BAGS - Only students who have a library bag can borrow books to take home. These bags need to be able to protect the books as they are transported home and returned.
LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS - In the unfortunate event that a book is lost or damaged please let me know straight away.
A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported our Grandparents Day & Book Parade. The Book Fair was another huge success with a total of $5727.16 being spent. (A little more than last year!) This has provided us with approximately $1800 to spend on books. We also had 2 full boxes of books donated by families during the day. An incredible effort.
To the children and parents - wow what inspiring costumes. There was an enormous amount of work done to create these costumes. Thank you all!
I would also like to extend my thanks to the wonderful staff at St Mary's who were so quick to support the day by dressing up and joining in, as well as opening their classrooms to welcome everyone. I also thank the wonderful ladies , Mrs Jodie Troon, Miss Caitlin Honeysett and Mrs Felicity Turnbull who helped in the library selling books. The new tap and go app proved tricky at times but was a huge asset.
Last, but not least, my wonderful Yr 6 helpers who have given up their time to set up and pack up the book fair, create decorations and supervise students viewing books. You are a wonderful group of library helpers. I am very fortunate indeed.
I truly hope you had a really wonderful day, especially our amazing grandparents.

Teachers often get asked why is it important that children read physical books, after all they spend time reading online so surely that is enough. I often get asked how relevant libraries are in this modern world. There is a great deal of research taking place as our children live in a world where information is so quickly accessible via the internet, yet literacy skills are either plateauing or falling. Below is an infographic showing the results of an OECD study into the impact of reading books in paper form, in digital form and not reading at all. The results are similar to many other studies. They show that reading in any form, but especially print books, has a positive impact in children's learning outcomes. The earlier our children start to enjoy books the better their long term success.
