Year 9 Geography Excursion – Glass House Mountains

On Monday of Week 3, the Year 9 Geography boys, Mr Denkes and Mrs Badini left the school at 8:00am for an hour and a half bus ride to the Glass House Mountains. Chrissy, our enthusiastic tour guide for the day, took us to Pim’s organics where we learnt about the process of Strawberry farming, the total costs, and the time required for growing the crop. Generously, Pim gave each of the boys a cup of freshly picked strawberries with their choice of condensed milk, chocolate or just their plain rich flavour.

We the got back on the bus and went to visit Norm and his avocado, lychee, and custard apple farm. He explained the pests and diseases that you encounter when undergoing this type of farming in this region. As we were leaving, we were given the chance to stock up on freshly grown avocadoes. Finally, we had lunch at a park and finished the guided tour with a visit to Sammy’s Sandy Creek Pineapple farm. He explained the family business and the lifespan of the crop and how they harvest them. He gifted us with a pineapple for home and we got back on the bus for the ride home. Overall, it was a great experience for the boys, and we really appreciate the time and energy given to the class from Mrs Badini, Mr Denkes, and Chrissy.
