Excursion News - Year 11 Construction Students Visit to QPAC’s New Performing Arts Venue
We are happy to share that on Tuesday 20 August, 21 enthusiastic Year 11 Construction students, had the incredible opportunity to visit QPAC's new performing arts venue in South Brisbane, which is currently under construction by Lendlease. This "Try a Skill" event, organised by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and funded by the government, was hosted by Lendlease and featured some familiar faces—Old Boys from Marist College Ashgrove, who are now part of the Lendlease team!
The day was packed with excitement as the students heard from a variety of inspiring speakers, including the award-winning architects, the Environmental Health and Safety Officer, and one of the project’s engineers. The students engaged in hands-on activities like building a catapult and designing a theatre, which not only sparked their creativity but also gave them a taste of the diverse trades available in the construction industry.
The highlight of the day was a guided tour of the venue, where the students gained valuable insights into the many trades involved in such a large-scale project. With a shortage of skilled tradespeople in Australia, the connection between Marist College Ashgrove and Lendlease is more important than ever, offering our students a potential gateway to exciting future careers.
We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and extend our heartfelt thanks to Lendlease and CSQ for making this event a truly unforgettable experience!
