Snow Sports Camp 2024

On Monday 19th August, 48 students, 6 staff and 1 parent volunteer ventured to Harrietville for the annual Year 10 Snow Sports Camp.

After a quick stop in Bright for lunch, Monday afternoon was spent settling into the lodge, collecting and fitting gear in preparation for snowboarding on Mount Hotham. Tuesday, we were up bright and early (6:00am) so that we could make it up the mountain for our morning lesson.  After the lesson on Tuesday, we enjoyed a lunch at the General Hotel before heading out in the afternoon to practice new skills in small groups supervised by GSC staff. By the end of Day 1, most students had ridden a lift and were gaining confidence in their abilities! Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - involved more lessons and skill development with most students progressing to Blue Runs by Thursday afternoon and by Friday we had some students even boarding on Black runs.  This year, we also held our first 'Christmas in August' which involved students dressing in festive costumes, a Christmas dinner and Kris Kringle. This was a great addition to the Camp and we are looking forward to continuing this tradition for years to come!

Overall it was an amazing experience and the students displayed enormous resilience dealing with early starts, frequent falls and aching muscles! The students were also complemented on their exemplary behaviour everywhere we went.

A huge thank you to Parent Helper, Brett Taylor, for giving up his time to make the camp such a success.
