‘Reading is Magic’ was the theme for this year’s Book Week.
Students and staff looked fabulous coming to school dressed as a favourite book character. Over the course of the day, each team organised a dress up parade where students could show off their costume. Students were also engaged in many reading and book activities in classrooms.
Our school captains embraced the dress up day with Keeth and Ethan coming as Harry Potter, Poet as Disgust from Inside Out and Sienna as Dolly Parton.
‘LETTERS TO OUR OLYMPIANS’ - this is the theme of this year’s Writer’s Festival.
As part of our students following the Olympics in Paris earlier this term, every child wrote a letter of encouragement and support to an Olympian. Congratulations to our students for the remarkable writing that they have produced.
Also, a big thank you to the teachers for working together to guide the students with their writing and for setting up the displays in the main building. The hallway is again a reflection of the excellent outcomes our students produce when writing. Our 2024 NAPLAN data clearly shows this.
Please take the time to visit the display and read some of the letters that were written.
Thank you to the 98 families who responded to the survey about a possible alternate school day timetable. Two alternate possible models were proposed with 62% of responders preferring Model 2 which is the one that finishes at 3.10pm.
The next step is now to ask parents if they prefer our current school day timetable or Model 2.
A Compass message will be posted on Monday 26 August with the link to respond to this second survey.
Parking around any school during school drop off or pick up times is always challenging for any parent. Fortunately, we have four Kiss and Drop zones in Bradford Avenue and Langton Way to alleviate these busy times. Common sense and consideration are always important factors to make this time better for all.
However, please be mindful that our staff carpark is not available for parents to enter for student drop off or pick up. At times, there are not even enough spaces to cater for all of our staff!
You are not permitted to use the staff carpark unless you have a short term Parent Parking Permit usually given for medical circumstances verified by a doctor. This might include the following circumstances:
Keep our students AND YOUR CHILD safe!
Please teach your child how to use the supervised school crossing before and after school even if it means you have further to walk. It never ceases to shock me to see a parent with their child/children in tow weaving between the incredibly busy traffic in the morning on Bradford Avenue or Langton Way to get to the school gate. What sort of a role model are they? What are they teaching their child/children about crossing a road safely? What do you think their child/children might do next time when they are on their own and need to cross the road before or after school?
Food for Thought
