David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all our dads and special people who popped along for our community breakfast last week. It was great to see you there, and congratulations to Zec's dad who won the door prize from Bunnings, a hot smoker set up. We also have to thank Amy, our Fundraising Coordinator for sorting the prize, and a huge thank you to Steph from TeamKids, who joined myself, Elliott and Ari from grade 6, serving up coffees in the Spanish Casa. Our coffee machine service has never been so smooth!

I'd also like to acknowledge all those students, parents, staff and community members who dressed up in purple for Friday. It was amazing to see the kindness and support extended by our community to LGBTIQ+ youth, and to your commitment to creating a safe and supported community. We will continue to honour this day and the similar days across the year, from Wear it Purple Day and International Day Against Racism, through to International Day for People with Disability. This is a core part of the DNA of Sunshine Heights Primary School; these days exemplify our school values of connection, courage, commitment and collaboration.

This week our grade 3/4 students have been on camp on Phillip Island. Camps and excursions provide students with real world opportunities and a chance to connect to learning in a different way to the classroom. We know the students (and staff) will return a little tired but having spent an amazing time together. Our program for camps begins in year 2, with our sleepover, and goes through until grade 6, supporting students to build resilience across the years. You will have seen Miss Francine and her grade 6 students fundraise at different points this year so we can support all families who may not be able to afford camps to attend. If you are interested in finding out more about this, please come and chat to us in the office.

Finally, and in very exciting news, we can announce the appointment of two additional staff members in term 4. We will welcome Thao Tran as our new speech pathologist, and Vanessa Wolf as our new Occupational Therapist. Both of these new staff members will work two days a week, and be able to provide students with additional support and interventions so they thrive at school. Both Thao and Vanessa have extensive knowledge of working with children in their specific fields, and came highly recommended. If you see them around the school please say a warm Sunny Heights hello and welcome!

Best wishes,

David and the Sunny Heights Team
