Good luck to all students representing the College next Wednesday 21 August, at the Alex Gadomski Cup Gala Day between St Virgil’s College and The Hutchins School. Now in its 7th year, the main football match is a Year 9/10 game, aiming to honour one of our former students, Alex Gadomski, and to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Alex Gadomski Fellowship - all in order to find a cure for bone marrow failure.
The 2024 event will again feature two curtain-raiser matches between the two schools before the main match.
All Old Boys, current students, family, and friends are encouraged to attend. This event is open to the general public and is free of charge. All matches will be played on the War Memorial Oval at The Hutchins School. A sausage sizzle and coffee van will be available, and donations are welcome.
This is a great event where two schools with a rich tradition of sporting rivalry come together for a terrific cause. The event will be live-streamed via DUFF TV, with details to be provided on the College Sports Facebook page.
Congratulations and good luck to the following students selected to represent the College at the Southern SATIS Swimming Carnival at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre on Thursday 29 August:

The College's Sailing Development Program is about to start up again and is currently looking to recruit additional students from Years 7–9 to join Team SVC.
Based at the College-owned Marine Education Centre (MEC) at Austins Ferry, the revamped Sailing Development Program will be conducted on Saturday mornings. The program runs for the remainder of Term 3 and through to the end of Term 4, focusing on learning the basics of sailing and how to sail/race our world-class fleet of Sabots. Experienced coaches and older sailing students will provide the coaching, along with some exciting coaching opportunities in conjunction with The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania and the Kingston Yacht Club.
The first session starts on Saturday 17 August, from 9.30 am at the MEC. No sailing experience is required; however, students must be confident around water and be proficient swimmers. Life jackets will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring wetsuits or appropriate attire to stay warm and dry. Some sessions will be land-based, involving rigging and safety information.
To register your son's interest in the program, please contact Geoff Doolan at doolang38@gmail.com or 0427 391 150 with the following information:
Parent/carer involvement and assistance are strongly encouraged where possible. This program not only teaches the basics of sailing but also equips students with lifelong skills that will serve them well. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
