We’re excited to reach the halfway mark of Term 3 and reflect on the fantastic progress our students have made. It’s been a great term so far, with lots of enthusiasm and achievement!
In Phonics, we’re nearing the end of Stage 7.1 in Little Learners, where we've been focusing on adding the suffix "-ing" to base words. Alongside this, students have been mastering long vowel sounds, including those for "oa," "igh," "ie," "-y," "ea," "ee," and "-y." We've seen great progress as they practise and apply this new skill in their reading and writing activities such as Let’s Spell and Let's Write.
In Knowledge, we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of the Olympics. The students have explored the values that underpin the Games, such as excellence, friendship, and respect, and delved into its rich history. They've enjoyed reflecting on the various sports they might choose to participate in if they were Olympic athletes, sharing their own dreams and insights. This exploration has sparked enthusiasm and provided a deeper appreciation for the spirit of the Olympics.
In Writing, students have recently embarked on crafting their own information reports by recalling facts from their Little Learners books. This activity has allowed them to practise organising and presenting information clearly, enhancing their research and writing skills. They’ve enjoyed turning their knowledge into detailed reports, showcasing their understanding and creativity.
In Numeracy. We've been focusing on the concept of division by learning how to split collections and shapes into halves. Students have discovered that when dividing a collection in half, there must be two equal parts. This hands-on approach has helped them understand the importance of equal parts in division and strengthened their overall understanding of sharing.
During SEL, we have been learning about strategies we can follow to help us calm down. We were able to identify what works best for us and understand that others have different calming strategies.
During Auslan lessons, we have been learning to sign different ‘Wh’ questions such as, who and what. Students have practised by signing the question poem.
