Principal’s Message - August 2024

Welcome to Week 5 of Term 3. We are at the halfway point of the term and our school is running smoothly with students deep in learning. This year we have had a number of schools wanting to visit us to see what we are doing in our classrooms. This week we welcomed a school from the eastern suburbs who had heard about our programs and teaching. As a community, we should be very proud that we are able to showcase our beautiful school.

As you may already be aware, we are a zoned school. This means that you must live in our allocated zone to be able to send your child to Gilgai Plains. The only exception to this is if you already have a child attending, their sibling is automatically entitled to attend, even if you are no longer in our zone. The zone is there to protect our school and to keep our numbers manageable. Our leadership team holds enrolment interviews for families wanting to start at Gilgai Plains during the term. These interviews are important as they set the scene and we are able to share our expectations with new families and welcome them into our community. Very often during these interviews, we hear that there is a very positive word of mouth about our school, and we feel so proud that our families would recommend us to prospective enrolments.

This semester, all students are actively involved in our Performing Arts program. Our staff and students are working towards our big production of “The Wizard Of Oz.” Many staff and students are busy rehearsing during their lunch and recess breaks in order to make the production a spectacular one. We can’t wait to see it. Please mark Friday 6th December in your calendars and more details will follow closer to the date.

Next week we celebrate Book Week with our character parade on Thursday at 9am in the gym. All families are invited to attend and watch the fun. It’s always so lovely to see the effort and creativity from our community and it’s also good to have a laugh at the staff.

We invite all parents and carers to participate in the 2024 opinion survey.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the  results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students. Please see the information and link to the survey below.
