Brodie Atkins recently competed in the U17s Vic Country match against NSW/ACT. Well done Brodie.
Last weekend, three of our Sports Academy footballers Addison Vickery-Howe, Jamie Chapman and Brooke Olsen competed for the Warragul Industrial Youth Girls in their Grand Final against Newborough. Having lost to Newborough during the round games, the Warragul Dusty’s were determined to grasp their much-desired win. With their hard work finally paying off, the girls won the game, 25-13. Well done girls and congratulations!
Congratulations to Tom Bastin who received the 2024 U14s Best & Fairest in the the Central Gippsland League Vote Count with 35 votes. Well done Tom and congratulations.
Congratulations to Harry Whittaker and Brenton Powell who received the Most Disciplined Award at the League Presentation for each of their clubs. Well done boys, what a great achievement.
On Tuesday the 13th of August, our Senior Boys basketball team competed in the Gippsland Round in hopes to make it to the State Finals. In their first game the boys played against Bairnsdale and won by over 10 points, starting out the day strong. They then played the SEDA basketball team and Bass Coast in the final and won both games by almost 20 points. Well done to all the boys who will now compete in the State Finals on Thursday the 19th of September.
On Tuesday the 6th of August our Junior Girl’s basketball team played in the Champions Cup Trial Tournament, playing at a higher level to prepare for Nationals coming up at the end of the year. The girls played against both Berwick and St. Monica's College and won by over 10 points. Unfortunately, they couldn’t grasp the win against Rowville and lost by 4 points. Despite the loss against Rowville, the girls still finished at the top of the ladder in their pool and are advancing to the Elite 8 Stage next week. Good luck girls and congratulations.
On Wednesday the 7th of August, our Intermediate Boys basketball team played in the Champions Cup Trial Tournament in the hope to advance to the Elite 8 Stage. The boys lost two games against Lilydale High School and Maribyrnong Sports Academy but won against Box Hill SCC by 4 points. Well done boys, good effort.
On Thursday the 8th of August, Lowanna entered a Senior Girl’s team into the Champion's Cup, consisting of one Year 12 student and students from Middle and Junior school. Despite being underage and competing against senior girls, our girls won 2 games against Western Heights College and Edinburgh College and lost against a talented Caulfield Grammar. Sitting second in their pool, the girls played a final to determine whether they advance to the Elite 8 Stage but unfortunately lost by 4 points against MLC. Well done girls and congratulations.
On Saturday the 10th of August, Year 11 student Darcy Knowles competed in the State Cross Country Championships in the U17 Girls race. Darcy ran the 3km race in an incredible time of 11:34, earning herself a silver medal and coming second in her race. Well done Darcy, what an incredible achievement.
Recently, Year 8 Sports Academy student, Sam Jones, competed in an endurance race at Mt Taylor where he raced four tracks coming 5th, 4th, 4th and 2nd in each race. Sam came 4th overall.

Well done to Year 11 student, Ayla Grbic, for being selected into the 2024 Volleyball Victoria Youth State Team Program. We wish her the best of luck in the program.
Since returning to her homeland of Ireland, Miss Sheridan has been seeking success in her Gaelic Football team. She plays for the town of Mullahoran where she recently played in the first game of the Gaelic Championships. Playing in the midfield, Miss Sheridan and her team won the first game with 4 goals and 13 points to the opposition who scored 1 goal and 12 points. Well done Miss Sheridan and we wish you the best of luck for the rest of the tournament!
Past Sports Academy student Mitch Tepaa is currently playing in his pre-season matches for Sierra College in the USA. Mitch has recently been in contact with us and said that his 'strength training has been great' and his 'deadlift is 236kg which is a basketball program record at Sierra'.
It was great to hear from Mitch and we wish him all the best for the rest of the year.
Our partner, Physioworks’ Madison Klooster, has recently worked as a Physio for the AFL Allies Squad, where Year 12 student Ricky Mentha played in the National U18's Championships.
