Swimming
There is already a great deal of excitement about our upcoming swimming program. Starting in Week 8, we swim every day for 10 days at Sweeney’s Swim Centre in Altona. The event is open on Compass for you to provide consent and payment for your child to attend. Please also return the paper form that went home last week if your child has asthma. We will be looking for two parent volunteers per class to come along and assist each day. You will need to have completed the online Parent Helper course (link via compass) and a valid Working With Children Check, sighted by the office to attend. We cannot run this program without your support, thank you in advance.
Bullying, No Way - National Day of Action Against Bullying
Last Friday, the school acknowledged the National Day of Action Against Bullying. The Year One students enjoyed some picture story books around the theme of respecting differences and belonging. There were great conversations afterwards as well as some artistic reflections about what they learned.
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7-8
Reading: During this term we will be covering stage 7.4 of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Next week we will be learning about the soft ‘g’ and soft ‘c’ sounds when followed by an e, i or y.
Writing: We are going to begin a new narrative piece, based around the theme of travel. This links nicely with our inquiry topic where we are learning about many different countries.
Numeracy: Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on measurement. We will be measuring and comparing lengths, masses and capacities of objects using informal units.
Inquiry: Our topic this term is around Geography. So far we have ‘travelled’ Australia, England, France and Italy. During the remainder of the term we will be learning about other countries including their geography, cultures and celebrations.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: Our Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids Display Perseverance". We will be learning to understand what perseverance is and discussing how to use it to overcome difficulties in the classroom, in the yard and at home. Our focus for Respectful Relationships this term is “Positive Gender Relationships”.
