Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

On Tuesday, our school joined our local Red Cross volunteers, in celebrating 110 years of service.  A big thank you to Helen, who spoke to our students about the enduring role of Red Cross and how our local branch continues to support people in need and our community as a whole.  Thank you also to the many volunteers who joined us on the day, and to our students and families for their support.  Over $110 was raised, which was greatly appreciated by members.

This year, we have been fortunate to be able to offer a cross country skiing program to all students in Years 3-6.  Yesterday, our Year 3/4 students finished their last day of cross country skiing, feeling confident, tired but grateful for the opportunity and all that they had learnt.

Next Wednesday, Years 5 & 6 will have their first of two XC ski days.  A reminder to families to please ensure you have completed consent and payment on Compass by tomorrow.  Our thanks again to Steph, Sheepy and the team from Howmans for their organisation and support in providing our students with this opportunity.

Tomorrow, Years 5 & 6 will have their final day of downhill skiing.  Many thanks to Steph for her organisation and to all our parent volunteers and participating staff, for their ongoing support.

Next week, students in Years 3-6 will have the opportunity to participate in a School of Play session with Dale Sidebottom.  This has been made possible with support from the Schools Focussed Youth Service. School of Play incorporates play-based well-being activities, to support the school's integration and promotion of positive well-being.

On the 2nd and 3rd September, this will be further supported by P-6 student workshops with Mindful Aus.  These workshops will be delivered, thanks to AGL, and will also provide families with the opportunity to attend a parent/teacher workshop on Monday 2nd September at 3.30pm.

Year 5 Skateboarding continued this week, with a focus on the importance sleep plays in having a positive mindset and sense of well-being.  Many thanks to Al and his team, together with the School Focussed Youth Service, for providing these sessions.

The annual Parent/Carer Opinion survey is now open for all families to complete.  Please assist our planning, by responding to this survey, which is being offered by the Department of Education. The survey is open until Friday 30th August. Please refer to the Compass notification that was sent home yesterday, for further information on how to complete the survey.

Our Year 3/4 Melbourne Camp is now less than a month away.  If you haven't yet finalised your child's attendance on Compass, please do so by tomorrow.  For any other questions regarding the camp, please don't hesitate to contact me asap.
