Year 5/6 News

Learning Centre Four

The Year 5/6 students in LC4 have been working hard and are hanging in there as we head into the final stretch of the term. It’s been a busy couple of weeks, with lots of great experiences like the Winter Gala, Huddle excursions, and our trip to ACMI. The colder weather has definitely arrived, but that hasn’t slowed us down! There’s still plenty of energy and excitement in the centre as we make the most of the last few weeks.

Social Media Alert

It has come to our attention that some students are watching inappropriate content on You Tube, TicTok and other social media platforms and discussing the content or words heard at school. Creators of these platforms are very clever when creating their content using cartoon characters and images that appeal to children but with an adult message and content. We strongly encourage all parents to be vigilant and monitor their child's social media use.

Scott and Krys / Rita ACMI Excursion- 12/06/2025

Yesterday, 5 White and 6 Blue attended their excursion to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), and it was an incredible experience for all involved. The students represented our school community with pride and consistently demonstrated our core values throughout the day.

As part of the visit, students took part in the engaging Kids News program, where they discovered the power of media and the art of digital storytelling. They explored how media shapes our world and learned valuable skills in media literacy.

Beyond the structured activities, students had the opportunity to explore ACMI’s interactive exhibits. They played classic arcade games, watched captivating animations, and traced the fascinating evolution of film, television, and digital technology. The hands-on experiences sparked curiosity about filmmaking, television production, and technological innovation. It was a fun-filled day that perfectly blended education and entertainment—a truly successful and memorable excursion!

Check out some of the photos to get an insight into the incredible day we had!

Wellbeing: We have continued to explore coping strategies, students have worked in small groups to discuss different strategies that can be used to help us to feel better when a situation may arise. During class discussions students revisited the different sub headings of  energetic activity, self-calming activity, social activity, shifting attention and getting organised to develop their own coping strategies. Some were even lucky enough to act out how we might use the effective strategies.

Year 6

Literacy: Students have demonstrated their learning about the Stolen Generations, creating diverse literary texts that showcase their understanding of the material. These included comprehensive informational texts that detailed the historical context and impact of government policies, as well as engaging podcasts that brought these stories to life through the voices of students. Through these activities, students developed greater awareness of Australia's past while fostering respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their ongoing journey toward healing and reconciliation.

Maths: Students have completed the unit on Probability and are consolidating their understanding of chance events, experiments and analysis of results.

Inquiry: Students have commenced creating their media art pieces. Some pupils have linked this project with the Stolen Generations and created some thought-provoking audio-visual texts.

Religion: Students continued to engage in a rich discussion on the sacrament of Confirmation.  They summarised and drew images and symbols associated with confirmation, as well as represented this meaning-making using Media Art.
