Social Media Alert
It has come to our attention that some students are watching inappropriate content on You Tube, TicTok and other social media platforms and discussing the content or words heard at school. Creators of these platforms are very clever when creating their content using cartoon characters and images that appeal to children but with an adult message and content. We strongly encourage all parents to be vigilant and monitor their child's social media use.
Year 3
Religion
In Religious Education, the Year 3 students have been continuing to explore discipleship. They have been unpacking the definition of discipleship, what makes a good disciple, and how they can be like disciples. They are beginning to show their understanding through a presentation that they will be adding to over the coming weeks. Our students have enjoyed showing their learning through technology.
Literacy
In Literacy, the Year 3 students have been learning about persuasive writing. We have read some interesting persuasive stories and looked at character arguments. They have also been planning persuasive pieces by making a claim, giving three reasons for their opinion, and supporting their reasons with evidence. These plans have been used to attempt writing detailed persuasive pieces including paragraphs with linked ideas. Students have enjoyed sharing their opinions and discussing different topics of interest.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, the Year 3 students have been learning about measurement, with a focus on length. We have begun learning how to use formal units of measurement including millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres. Students have been practicing measuring, estimating, and comparing lengths of various items. They have enjoyed working with rulers, measuring tapes and different measuring tools.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, the Year 3 students have continued learning about Media Art. They have been looking at different stories created through digital technologies and how the elements used in these shape their understanding of the content. They have also begun using different technologies to start creating their own retell of these and other stories. Some of our students are using computer programs, physical tools, or a combination of the two. They have enjoyed sharing their creativity through different mediums and practicing their digital skills.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, the Year 3 students have been learning about the school value of respect and how they can show respect by being patient. Our students enjoyed giving examples of all the ways they can practice patience in their lives. They have also been learning more about emotions and how the intensity of an emotion can vary and that we can describe similar emotions with different words to indicate the intensity. The students enjoyed showing how they would express a given emotion at different intensities.
Year 4
Religion
In Religious Education, the Year 4 students continue to explore Prophets in the bible, featuring Daniel, Jonah and Miriam. Students are extending their understanding of each prophet through Godly play and creating a “Prophet map” brainstorming what the prophet would think, say, see, etc. Year 4 students also created a “Portrait” of each prophet, detailing what the prophet of the week would like, dislike, eat, wish and believe. Throughout our Prophet study, students have shown deep reflection on how the prophet's lives and messages affect their own life.
Literacy
In Literacy, the Year 4 students have been learning how to persuade an audience through language and key phrases. Students are learning to support their argument or opinion through claim and reasoning, putting their understanding to the test through lively class discussions. The Year 4’s are transferring this knowledge of persuasive language to advertisements, exploring how print and film ads hook an audience through persuasive techniques. It has certainly been fun watching Year 4 students passionately explore opinions about various topics.
Numeracy
In Maths, the Year 4 students have been exploring how to interpret and evaluate different types of data displays. Students have been learning to compare graphs that show the same information and decide which one best represents the data. Year 4 students have also been identifying questions that can be answered from a given graph and explaining why some graphs may not be useful for certain types of questions. The Year 4’s have been great at practicing how to ask thoughtful, data-driven questions based on presented information.
Inquiry
The Year 4 students continue to inquire into the use of media technologies to tell Creation stories. Students are using storyboards to organize their ideas and consider different media techniques that will bring their stories to life. As they move from planning to production, Year 4 students follow their storyboards and use previously explored technology and production practices to begin creating their media art pieces. The Year 4’s are also learning to manage their time by creating schedules that help them stay on track. We are looking forward to seeing Learning Centre 2’s final projects!
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, Year 4 students are developing a deeper understanding of their emotional responses and how these can change depending on different situations and interactions. Year 4’s are learning to describe the intensity of emotions and recognize how social settings can influence their feelings and behaviour. Through discussion and reflection, Year 4’s have explored what might trigger strong emotions and how these responses can vary in strength. They’re also identifying when it’s helpful to use self-calming or self-cheering strategies, especially in moments of frustration or anger. It is great to see the Year 4’s practicing ways to calm down and stay in control, building important emotional regulation skills.
