Library News

Our school chess team played in the second round of the annual New South Wales Junior Chess League Country Knockout against Scone Grammar School. In a hard-fought contest, our team was defeated by a hugely talented outfit. Regardless of the result, our team displayed true grit and resilience in the face of intense competition. They can look forward to playing their next match with a renewed confidence in their ability.
The library has just received a consignment of new fiction titles which can be found on the new book display. Students who are completing The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC), or sourcing reading material for the DEAR program may find some interesting and engaging reads.
On that note, the PRC has extended the closing date to Friday 19 September, which is Week Nine of Term Three. The PRC enables participants to experience quality literature from a range of authors and genres. Students need to read twenty books, including at least ten books from the prescribed PRC reading lists. Combined with the DEAR program, the PRC provides a great platform for improving literacy skills. Please email Mr Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you wish to register.
Finally, NRL Footy tips need to be submitted into the library by 3.15pm on Thursday afternoons or emailed before the first game of the round kicks off. The competition is gaining popularity, with more participants signing up this year. After eleven rounds, only one-point separates first and second, and another point separates second and third. A leaderboard is available for viewing in the junior fiction area of the library.
