It is important to tell the school if your child has to be absent from school and to provide a reason for the absence, including an explanation for late arrivals.
Wherever possible, parents and carers are encouraged to provide an explanation for absences before the absences occur. Schools have the right to question parents’ requests for their child to be absent from school as well as to question an explanation given for a child’s absence from school.
If the school has not received an explanation for a child’s absence, including part day absences (late arrivals or early leavers), we will send you an Absentee Notice via School Bytes. Schools use the Absentee Notice to contact parents within two days of an unexplained absence. The Absentee Notice must be completed in English and returned to the school within seven school days, giving a reason for the absence.
If your child is running late for school, a parent or carer must bring them to the student counter to be signed and provide an explanation. All students who arrival late and not in the company of their parents or adult guardian will be marked as 'Unexplained - unjustified', and parents will be sent an Absentee Notice via School Bytes.
Our Stage 2 students presented their Multicultural Speeches and delivered impromptu speeches on Wednesday in front of their peers. All participants are congratulated for their bravery and creativity displayed on the day, delivering engaging presentations on their chosen topic. Stage 3 will present their speeches next week.
The Premier's Spelling Bee is an engaging way for NSW public primary school students to expand their vocabularies and improve their spelling. Details concerning the categories and round details follow.
Categories
The Bee has 2 categories. They are:
Additionally, Year 2 students expressing interest via their parents will also have the opportunity to participate in the Junior Spelling Bee.
Year 2 Details
Any student in year two wishing to participate with Year 3 & 4 students, parents can contact the classroom teacher for the list of spelling words. Spelling words can be practised at home. During lunch time at the end of Week 6, Year 2 students will participate in a spelling competition against their peers. Winners from Year 2 will then go to the school round to spell against Year 3 and 4 students.
Round Details and Selection of School Finalists
Years 3 to 6 will have the opportunity to participate in the class round during Week 7. Finalists will then be informed and participate in the school round in Week 8. Words for both rounds will be selected from the corresponding official word lists that have already been shared with all students.
The number of words spelt correctly by students will be used to identify finalists for the school round. We are aiming to select 10 students from each category for the school round. After the school round, two students (one student from each category) will have the opportunity to represent the school at the regional finals. These take place in August, Term 3, Weeks 4 and 5 and are conducted online.
We wish all of our students the best of luck!
Kindy and Year 6 buddies had a fantastic time together today, participating in a creative and educational session filled with art and storytelling. In alignment with Kindergarten’s current Science and Geography units on living things and the farm, students crafted adorable sheep artworks in preparation for their upcoming farm excursion in two weeks. It was a joyful session of learning, laughter, and connection as part of the Buddies Program!
Our CPS class and portrait photographs were taken in Term 1. If your child was absent, unwell, or not yet enrolled on that day, we have organised a make-up portrait session on Monday 26 May. This provides an opportunity for these students to have their portraits taken.
Please ensure your child is dressed in correct winter school uniform.
