Learning at Chatswood

I’ve been genuinely impressed by the focus and enthusiasm of our students as I walk through classrooms each day. Their commitment to learning is clear, and it reflects the strong teaching and support they receive from our staff. It is always a joy to see students engaged, working collaboratively, and striving to do their best. The calm and purposeful learning environments across the school are a credit to our teachers and support staff.

Initialit

It has been great to see the implementation of InitiaLit in our Kindergarten to Year 2 classrooms. The quality of instruction, consistency of routines, and the care taken to build strong early literacy foundations has been outstanding. A big thank you to our K–2 teachers for the effort and professionalism they bring to this important work. It is making a real difference for our students.

Save the date

On Thursday 19 June, we will be holding two parent information sessions in the school hall. The first session will be at 9:00am, with a repeat session at 2:00pm. These sessions will launch a new program designed to support parents with research-based information on a range of topics to help children thrive at school and at home. Behind the scenes, a great deal of planning has gone into this initiative, which is being delivered in partnership with Sydney North Primary Health Network. We look forward to sharing more details in upcoming newsletters.

Kindergarten 2026

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2026 are now open. If your child will be starting school next year, we encourage you to enrol early so your family can take part in our orientation program later in the year. Being involved in this process helps children become familiar with the school environment, meet their teachers and classmates, and start building a positive connection to school. It’s a great way to support a smooth and confident start to Kindergarten.

Semester 1 reports

From this term, families will see a new format for school reports. These changes have been introduced by the NSW Department of Education for all public schools to make reports clearer and more helpful for parents and carers.

Reports will continue to show your child’s progress in all key learning areas. Teacher comments will now appear in English, Mathematics, and the general comment section, in line with department policy. Kindergarten reports also include information on Creative Arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and Science and Technology.

You’ll notice a revised achievement scale and updated descriptions that aim to give a more accurate picture of your child’s learning and development.

We’ll provide more detail about these changes and how the reports will look at our upcoming P&C meeting.
