Notizie Italiane

ITALIAN NEWS
We have been super busy on the Italian front so far this term!
Not only have we celebrated Italian Day in true BSPS style, but we have also welcomed our wonderful CO.AS.IT Italian Assistants, Sophie and Lucrezia to our BSPS school community and hosted our very first Pranzo Italiano Club thanks to our generous parent/carer volunteers! In addition, three brave and perseverant students from Years 4, 5, and 6 sat their final online test (prova finale) for the Giochi Matematici del Mediterraneo. Finally, the past five weeks have been dedicated to strengthening our pathways with our local kindergartens, and building relationships with universities in Italy.
PRANZO ITALIANO CLUB #1 (31 marzo 2025)
Grazie to our parent/ carer volunteers Olive Mann (Arabella and Pernille’s dad) and Giselle Quinti (Gia’s mum), for leading our first Pranzo Italiano Club for the year! We had a fantastico time showing our school value of Mutual Responsibility in an authentic Italian culinary experience. Our year 5/6 students were wonderful role models to our Foundation students who were participating in this club for the very first time!
Our second Pranzo Italiano Club will be held next week on Monday 26th May. Thanks in advance to Oliver Mann and Sophie Pammelati (Ludo’s mum) for hosting this one!We will let your child know if they will be attending well in advance and remind them also on the day!
NB: Just a heads up, this club is not a lunch substitute, so please send your child with their own lunch on this day as they will eat it before they go to Pranzo Italiano Club. All dietary requirements will also be catered for in this club.
Giochi Matematici del Mediterraneo
Congratulazioni to Marta Giuffrida in Year 4, Valerio La Rosa in Year 5, and Marcel Guyon in Year 6who sat the FINAL online test (prova finale)for this round of the International Italian Mathematics Competition: Giochi Matematici del Mediterraneo. We are proud of all your achievements, for displaying a growth mindset and sense of possibility! In bocca al lupo, ragazzi!
Grazie mille, to Giuliano for supporting these students with their Italian during this test!
The next Giochi Matematici del Mediterraneo will recommence this year in October/ November as it follows the Italian school year. If your child loves Maths, thrives on teamwork and trying new things, we encourage them to join this competition! All students in Years 3, 4 and 5 are invited to participate!
Stay tuned for more information!
Kindergarten Information Evening PresentationsOne of the important parts of my Bilingual Engagement Leader role entails building relationships with kindergartens in our local area and strengthening the pathway to primary school. Over the past few weeks, Sarah P (Year 1/2 teacher and Numeracy Learning Specialist) and I have visited Brunswick Kindergarten and The Learning Sanctuary, showcasing our Italian Bilingual Program and Wellbeing practices.
Grazie to the centre managers Elisa from Brunswick Kindergarten, and Natasha from The Learning Sanctuary, for inviting us to speak to their lovely families! It was great to see current BSPS families and prospective families present. We look forward to seeing them on our school tours in the future! Just a friendly reminder that if you have neighbours, friends or family members who are interested in sending their child to our school, please encourage them to come along for a school tour!
University Professor School Visit
Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of hosting Professor Maria Lucenti from the University of Genova. Maria holds a PhD in Social Sciences, with a focus on Migration and Intercultural Processes, and she is a lecturer in the History of Pedagogy and Education. She is currently in Australia for a research project titled:“RESEARCH ON TEACHING MATERIALS USED IN AUSTRALIAN BILINGUAL SCHOOLS,”During Maria’s two-day visit, she observed our Italian bilingual model in action providing us with effective feedback on the positive teaching practices, approaches, strategies and methodologies we adopt in class to engage our students and enable them to fulfill their learning goals. While interviewing many staff members (both English and Italian), we participated in rich and robust conversations about our school. Some of you may have even heard her interview on SBS Italiano. If you missed it, and would like to listen to it in Italian, please click on this link: https://www.sbs.com.au/language/italian/it/podcast-episode/come-funzionano-le-scuole-bilingui-in-australia/8gba5gk44Grazie mill to Michela Pellizon from CO.AS.IT for organising this visit, and introducing us Maria Lucenti!
Buona settimana a tutti,
Nancy(Bilingual Engagement Leader)
