Celebrating Inclusion at BSPS

Out of all 8 billion people on the planet today, there is nobody else with your fingerprint and there is nobody else quite like you. Isn’t that brilliant? We’re all made of stardust—tiny pieces of the universe—and that’s what makes each of us unique, special, and beautiful in our own way.

One of the things we treasure about BSPS is our diverse and inclusive community. The IDAHOBIT parade on Friday was a wonderful celebration of this. It was fantastic to see our community come together to show support for a world where everyone feels safe to be who they are. I like to think of our school as our own little world, where the way we treat each other sets a shining example.

At BSPS, we know that everyone is different. We all have our own stories, strengths, and challenges. Some of those challenges are easy to see, like a broken arm or using a wheelchair. Others are invisible, like feeling anxious, or maybe something hard is happening at home. That’s why we need to make it our habit to lean into kindness.

It feels good to be kind. And kindness is contagious! Sometimes it’s not easy to be kind, but mostly it is!  A smile, a kind word, or including someone in a game can make a big difference to someone’s day.

Let’s keep looking out for one another, celebrating our differences, and making BSPS a safe and welcoming place for all.

Thank You to Our Working Bee Volunteers

A heartfelt grazie mille to the wonderful, water-proof BSPS parents and carers who braved the rain to take part in Saturday’s working bee. Despite the wet weather, you rolled up your sleeves, prepared the ground for our upcoming Inclusion Space works, and did lots of planting. Your time, energy, and resilience are deeply appreciated. Special thanks to Kelley Mackay for organising!

We are all very excited to see the commencement of our Inclusion Space decking project kick off in the next couple of weeks.

Some staffing news

My congratulations to Tristen, who has accepted a Learning Specialist position at Collingwood English Language School in Craigieburn. He will be commencing in his new position from Week 8.

Tristen has only been with us a short time, but during that time has made a positive impression on students, parents and colleagues alike. We wish him every success as he takes this next step in his career as an educator, and I’m sure he will flourish in his new role.

Since joining us earlier this year, Ciara has been doing a phenomenal job teaching PE and has successfully introduced Insieme United to the Interschool Sports circuit. I’m delighted to let you know that she has agreed to step into the 5/6 team, and is excited to work alongside Simo, Meerah and Federica with our gorgeous 5/6 cohort.

Jack Laing will be picking up PE and Insieme United, having been a wonderful asset as one of our regular CRTs. I know you’ll make him feel very welcome as he joins our teaching team. There is a bio and photo of Jack further in this Newslet so you’ll know who to look out for.

Some news from me

I’m very excited to be taking a short stint of leave from May 28-June 12th, spending time with relatives in the UK and supporting my youngest son as he takes part in a soccer tournament in Sweden. Sarah Burdak will be acting Principal during that time, and Chiara Spalletta will be acting Assistant Principal. My sincere thanks to Sarah and Chiara, whom I know will do a brilliant job during my absence.

Ciao for now,

Kristie
