Prayer

In 1884, the bishops of Australia decided to make Mary Help of Christians the patron of Australia. This feast day is celebrated this year on Saturday the 24th of May. We turn to Mary on this day, asking her for protection and guidance, just as she put herself into God's faithful care.

Mary Help of Christians Prayer:

Loving God, you place deep in our hearts the love of Mary, Help of Christians. Through her prayers grant wisdom to all those who help and guide us and may we live in harmony, justice and peace.

We ask Mary, Help of Christians to watch over us so that we may always be safe until we reach our eternal home. 

Through Mary we thank God for peace in our country; our standard of living; freedom of religion; our youth; our parents and families and the values we inherited; our multicultural nation; our indigenous brothers and sister.

Help us to grow living out the Christian values which we treasure and Mary modelled.

Mary, Help of Christians, watch over us with love.  Together with your Son and the Holy Spirit, bless Australia so that we can be people of peace, people who love and respect each other, and people who love and respect our land, Australia. 

We make this prayer through Jesus, your Son.
