Room 2

Foundation - Year 2

With many new friends joining our classroom, we took the time to have some fun, be creative, and use our imagination as we learned more about each other and made friends with our new classmates. Inspired by the story, The Fort, student worked together to build some forts in the classroom 😊

In a quiet forest, two imaginative children each discover the same fort. To one, it's a grand castle ready for a royal feast; to the other, it's a mighty pirate ship set for a treasure hunt. When they unexpectedly meet, their adventures collide! Can a prince and a pirate find a way to share their special place? This delightful story celebrates creativity, cooperation, and the magic of making new friends.

Over the past few weeks, our students have been enjoying the Pig the Pug picture storybooks as part of our reading program. These much loved stories have been used as mentor texts to help us build important reading strategies.

Students have been exploring the characters of Pig and Trevor, comparing their personality traits and discussing how they change throughout the stories. Students used their creativity to design their very own front covers for a new Pig the Pug adventure! This will inspire some of our writing in the weeks to come.

Rocket Writing in Room 2

In Room 2, we’ve been working on building our focus and stamina during writing time, which can sometimes be a bit tricky! This week, we introduced a fun and creative activity called Rocket Writing.

Students were invited to write or draw about whatever inspired them. This could be letters, words, sentences, pictures, or even copying words from a favourite book. The goal was simple: keep our pencils on paper for 10 minutes with minimal noise and stay focused for as much of that time as possible.

We’re thrilled to share that not only did we meet our goal...we exceeded it! Our young writers stayed engaged for 20 minutes, and they were so proud of their efforts that they couldn’t wait to share their work with the senior students. What a fantastic achievement in building writing confidence and stamina!
