PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation
who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging. As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.
Thank you.
EDUCATION SUPPORT (ES) DAY 2025
On behalf of our teaching staff and students, we thank our Education Support Staff for the invaluable contribution they make to our school every day.
Their hard work, dedication and commitment to our students, teachers and parents does not go unnoticed. Each and every one of them plays a crucial role in the success and betterment of our school and for this, we are all extremely grateful.
Their positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond is really appreciated.
They all make Moorabbin PS a great place to be!
Their roles are many and varied but all so essential to the functioning of a school.
A big, huge thank you and acknowledgement to the following ES staff:
Karmen Vannutini, Lisa Harris and Mahela Maurice who work in the office and are the ‘face‘ of our school.
First aide support staff Jane Stewart who is so awesome in caring for our students’ medical needs.
Jane Kanizay and Shelley Cameron who support students with their Literacy and Numeracy.
Hannah Hutchinson, Kat Power, Olivia Ralston, Georgina Thurgood, Erin Zhang, Cooper Beaton, Courtney Bentley, Val Wills and Julie Clarke who support the learning and inclusion of many of our students in classrooms.

NEW PLAYGROUND A HUGE HIT!
It is safe to say that the new playground in front of the new building has been a fantastic new addition and a wonderful play area for the students. As the excitement and anticipation has been so overwhelming we are staggering each year level through so that everyone has a turn to play there and does so safely. We have developed a mini roster for next week’s recess and lunchtime play time:
Monday- Foundation and Year 1 students
Tuesday- Year 2 and Year 3 students
Wednesday- Year 4 students
Thursday- Year 5 students
Friday- Year 6 students
AROUND THE SCHOOL
The Grade 1 students participated in the National Simultaneous Story Time yesterday and read the story “The Truck Cat”. This story had the theme of homes, different types of homes and what makes a home. The students worked hard to create homes using various materials. These will be on display in the Grade 1 area, and we welcomed our students and families to have a look at their children’s creations Friday the 23rd of May in the morning at 8.40am. These will continue to be up on display until next week. Please feel free to come into the BER and have a look.
EMBRACING THE SCIENCE OF LEARNING AT MPS
There is a growing interest in the “Science of learning” in Education at the moment.
What does this mean? There is strong and rich research which has been conducted around on how the brain learns best and how we can teach more effectively in our classrooms. A recent article challenged some common myths about the science of learning and highlighted how, when properly understood, this approach empowers teachers and supports deeper, more inclusive student learning. It’s a message that strongly resonates with what we’re working towards here at MPS.
As a staff we took time to read this article as we work on sharpening our routines at the beginning of our lessons, during the practice and engagement part and how we conclude and wrap up the skills that we expect children to master alongside the teaching sequences we have developed.
As a school we are working together to embed the science of learning into our planning and practice. The article, (see link below) addressed five key myths—such as the idea that classroom walls must be blank, differentiation is no longer relevant, or that explicit instruction stifles creativity—and replaced them with powerful truths.

ILLNESS - UNWELL STUDENTS
As we enter the cooler months, we are seeing an increase in colds and flu. While we understand the importance of regular school attendance, we kindly ask that if your child is displaying symptoms or feeling unwell, please keep them at home. This helps prevent the spread of illness to other students and staff.
Gastroenteritis Reminder: If your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, they must remain at home for at least 48 hours after the last episode before returning to school. This precaution helps keep our school community healthy and safe. Thank you for your understanding and support.
ANNUAL REPORT
The Annual Report for 2024 is now available for the school community to view. This can be accessed on our school website.

SCHOOL REVIEW FINALISED- OUR NEW GOALS
The Review process has now concluded, and these are the three main goals for our new strategic plan. On behalf of myself and Mr Corrigan we would like to thank the community, students and staff for their engagement and feedback on how we can make our school even better. I would also like to extend my personal thanks to Mr Sean Abell, our School council President for volunteering two precious days out of his busy schedule to support the Review process and offer insights into our school from a parent perspective. Thank you!
