Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

As we reach the midpoint of another vibrant and eventful term here at Derinya, I’ve taken time to reflect on the true meaning of community—and just how fortunate we are to be part of one so connected, supportive, and inclusive. Being part of the Derinya community extends beyond the walls of the school—it encompasses our students, staff, families, and all those who contribute to the life and spirit of our school. Each interaction, act of support, and shared moment we experience reminds us of the power of belonging, the strength in unity, and the meaningful impact we can have on one another’s lives. All of this being said, I would like to acknowledge our most recent events and share what is next to come.

National Walk Safely to School Day

Last week we were fortunate to be supported by our local police officers who came and chatted to the children and families encouraging us to walk to school in a safe manner. It was great to reiterate the important message to our students that our local police are here to support and help us and are a valuable part of our community.

Trivia Night

Many thanks to our Community Connect team for bringing parents, carers and friends together at our recent Trivia Night. A wonderful time was had by all with lots of fun and laughter throughout the evening. Thank you to all who attended and for your fundraising efforts.

Senior Production

Our Senior Production is fast approaching, and the children have been working hard rehearsing their performances. It is set to be another outstanding show thanks to the dedication and talent of our wonderful performing arts teachers who work tirelessly to bring a new work to the stage each year. A reminder that our priority ticket sales have now been released with all families being entitled to 2 tickets. After two weeks have passed all remaining tickets will open for general sale.

Traffic Safety

Could I please ask parents also to be mindful when driving through Derinya Drive for pickup at the end of the day. We’re continually hearing reports of parents double and triple parking, with students manoeuvring through traffic to get into vehicles. I’m worried that this behaviour is going to result in a serious injury. Please drive through Derinya Drive carefully and use the full length for pickup. There are often car spaces further up close to the Stadium. If you have no luck getting a space, please do a lap around the block and try again.

Annual Report to Community

Our Annual Report to Community from 2024 is now available to families to review. This report shows a summary of the school’s performance across the previous year with comments regarding the school’s highlights and areas of focus. For those interested the Annual Report can be found HERE.

Derinya Kitchen

Our Kitchen program is one that is really special to our students and to our community. It is certainly one that students look forward to and can’t run without the assistance of our parent volunteers. DKD is also a much loved weekly event. To keep DKD running smoothly we are seeking a little extra help on a Thursday morning to assist with DKD preparation. If you are able to help out please contact the office.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards,

Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya community.
