Can you believe we are already over halfway through Term 2, with only four weeks remaining after this one? The term is flying by, and it's been a busy and exciting time at SJV.
Over the past two weeks, our school has been buzzing with activity. We've celebrated the First Communion Reflection Day and Commitment Mass, enjoyed the Stomp dance program, Kinder visits, participated in Interschool Sport, conducted Prep 2026 interviews, and taken part in various other activities. Our students are so fortunate to have access to such a wide range of enriching experiences.
Please keep our First Communion candidates in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to receive this important sacrament for the first time on Sunday, 15th June at 9am in the Church. The students have been working diligently in preparation for this special day, which will be celebrated by Fr Ramsay Williams.
A special thank you goes to Luke Brownhill, Laura Heiberg, and Kerry Slater for their dedication and guidance in preparing the candidates so beautifully. We also extend our gratitude to Nicole Davies and the other staff members who have worked behind the scenes to ensure that this occasion will be a meaningful and memorable celebration.
Thursday, 12th June will be Ms Chloe Lawlor’s final day with us at SJV. We would like to sincerely thank Chloe for her contribution to our school community during her time here.
Chloe has brought warmth, enthusiasm, and dedication to her role, and she will be missed by both staff and students. We wish her all the very best as she embarks on an exciting new chapter—her upcoming wedding overseas and starting a new position as Learning Diversity/Wellbeing Leader at St Michael's Primary School in Ashburton!
On behalf of the whole SJV community, congratulations and best wishes, Chloe!
As shared in a recent email, we have been informed that construction on the Brisbane Terrace pedestrian crossing project has commenced. We are very pleased to see this important safety upgrade for our school community moving forward and extend our thanks to the many parents who supported this process.
Works will continue until Friday this week and will include the installation of speed cushions, line marking, a new pedestrian path, and updated signage. Traffic islands will be installed in the coming weeks; however, this will not affect the safe use of the crossing in the meantime.
To support the progress of this project, we kindly ask that parents and staff accommodate any reasonable requests from tradespeople for temporary access to parking spaces near the construction site.
Importantly, no work impacting traffic flow will be conducted during school drop-off or pick-up times to ensure the safety of all families.
You may also have noticed tree removal work taking place on-site. This was done following advice from both our Arborists and the Council’s Arborist, who confirmed that the affected trees were diseased and posed a risk. Their removal supports our upcoming building project and aligns with our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we make these important improvements to our school surroundings.
On Friday the 20th of June, we are holding our annual SJV Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held at: Mentone Athletic Track (Dolamore Athletics Track), Dolamore Reserve, Queen Street, Mentone. It will start at 9:30am and go through until 2pm. All of the Students from Years Prep to Year 6 will be travelling by bus to and from the Athletics track. Our departure time will be at 9:10am from school. All students will return back to school by approximately 3pm.
If any parents are available to assist on the day, could you please contact Mrs Monotti - dominique.monotti@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au
We will need at least two parent helpers from each class. Parents who can assist will need to meet at the track at 9:15am and stay until 2:30pm. Further information will be shared in digital form next week to all families.
We ask that students come dressed in their house colours and sports uniform. All children are asked to bring a packed lunch with a water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks. We encourage hats, sunscreen, beanies and coats depending on the weather. If it is raining on the day and we have to postpone, we will send a text message to all families by 9.30am. Let's hope the weather gods smile upon us!!!!
More information will be shared closer to the date.

Tuesday 1st of July - Fete Meeting at 7pm - All are welcome to attend
If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved. The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually (excluding two crazy Covid years) and is the most wonderful community event.
As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after. All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.
There are, however, a couple of larger roles that we need filled ASAP. They come with a handover, so you won’t be left wondering what to do.
Craft Stall Coordinator/s
This person/s organises crafts to be made and sold at the event, often hosting evenings/daytimes to make crafts together. All parents/grandparents made.
Silent / Live Auction Coordinator/s
This person/s organises and arranges a team that sources donations that can be auctioned live or can be a part of a Silent Auction for the night.
Reverse Raffle Coordinator/s
This person/s organises and runs the Reverse raffle for the night.
General Committee members
Assisting with marketing
Sourcing silent auction items
Supporting stall holders
Attending meetings
None of these tasks are onerous when we work as a team. Thanks to those parents that have already stepped up to fill some roles. It will be a wonderful experience.
Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au to put your name down to be a part of this great event.
Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.
Calling all dads to join the SJV Dads Group on WhatsApp. Scan the QR code below to join. This is a great way to communicate special events that are taking place for all the dads here at SJV. A special thanks to Matt Spencer for coordinating this.
Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school. Enrolments for Prep 2026 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office (Limited places available).
We hope your experience with St John Vianney's Primary School Parkdale has been positive and enriching. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts and experiences by leaving us a Google business review. Your feedback not only helps us continue to improve and grow but also assists other families in making informed decisions about their children's education. Thank you for taking the time to support our school community!

Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools. We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 19th of June.
