PE Highlights

It’s been a super busy and exciting term in PE so far, with lots of events and activities for our students to enjoy and shine!
Girls AFL Gala Day
We kicked things off with the Year 5 & 6 Girls AFL Gala Day. Our ‘A’ team had a brilliant day, winning all their pool games and making it through to the semi-finals! They played with fantastic determination and teamwork. Our ‘B’ team also had a great time, showing amazing enthusiasm and sportsmanship all day. Well done to all the girls—we’re so proud of your efforts and positive attitudes!
District Cross Country
Congratulations to all the students who represented GRPS at the District Cross Country on Tuesday 20th May. Our school came 8th overall, with many students achieving personal bests. A big highlight was our 11-year-old boys, who came 1st as a team—amazing! Special mentions go to:
- Lenny Proctor (8th) and Samuel Evans (9th) – 11 Boys
- Jessica Lane (3rd) and Isla Smith (6th) – 12/13 Girls
- These four students will now compete at the Division event next week—good luck!
Year 3 Gala Sessions @ Aquinas College
Our Year 3s have had a special opportunity to head over to Aquinas College for some fun gala sessions, run by the Aquinas Sport & Recreation students. So far, they've played netball, with soccer and basketball still to come. The students have loved the experience and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Aquinas for these great sessions.
What’s Coming Up
There’s still more to look forward to:
- Year 5 & 6 Winter Interschool Sport Gala Days
- House Athletics Carnival for Years 3–6 – Tuesday 1st July
PE Lessons
- Prep to Year 2 students have been working on their kicking skills—learning how to do both soccer and AFL kicks.
- Years 3–6 students have been improving their AFL skills—including handpassing, kicking, bouncing, and marking—through fun and active games. Next, we'll be focussing on athletic field events in readiness for our Athletics day.
Run Around Australia
Our whole school is aiming to “Run Around Australia” this year! So far, we’ve run over 4,500km—enough to get us all the way from Melbourne up the east coast to Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. Fantastic effort, everyone—let’s keep running! Everyone is welcome to come to Running Club on a Monday & Wednesday from 8:30am and run around the oval. All laps run gets added to distance.
