Performing Arts News – Term Update
It has been a vibrant and exciting start to the term in the Performing Arts space!
All classes have now begun rehearsals for this year’s musical production, Shrek Jr. Each class is busy learning lyrics, developing choreography, and exploring their scenes in preparation for what promises to be a fantastic show. The students are showing wonderful enthusiasm and creativity as they bring their class items to life.
Meanwhile, our main cast members have been working diligently behind the scenes, attending lunchtime rehearsals as well as singing and acting coaching sessions. Their commitment and energy are impressive, and we are thrilled with the progress they are making.
This term, we also launched Glee Club, a new student-led lunchtime activity for those who love to sing and dance. It’s been a joy to see students connecting over their shared passion and collaborating creatively. The group is currently working on the upbeat classic “I’m a Believer,” and have had a lot of fun planning the choreography together.
Our instrumental program continues to thrive, with close to 150 students learning a musical instrument this year. In an exciting development, we’ve also launched a brand-new Concert Band, which meets every Thursday lunchtime under the direction of Dr Ian Nisbet. The band is off to a fantastic start and is currently working on their first arrangement, “Let’s Rock.”
At last week’s assembly, we had the pleasure of witnessing some of our talented performers in action. Paige from Year 3 wowed the audience with her solo performance of “I Want It Now,” and our talented Fionas gave us a delightful preview of Shrek Jr. Gemma and Sofia (Young Fiona), Eva and Trinita (Teen Fiona), and Ella and Rosie (Princess Fiona) sang “I Know It’s Today” with confidence and charm. Their performance set a high bar for what’s to come, and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage later in the year.
With so much happening, it's truly an exciting time in Performing Arts. Thank you for your continued support – we look forward to sharing more musical magic with you as the term progresses!
